🦛 She was the first captive‑bred hippopotamus in Europe to be successfully reared by her mother, Adhela, who herself had arrived at the zoo in 1854 as the first female hippo in Europe since Roman times

🦛 Guy Fawkes was a female hippopotamus born at London Zoo on 5 November 1872 — hence the name referencing Bonfire Night.

A day late, but to celebrate #WorldHippoDay, we'd like to introduce you to Guy Fawkes, found in 'Wild animals and the camera' (William P. Dando, 1911). We're sure you'll agree she's a real beauty.
