Also, take some time to think up stories as to how she got the cool scar. Knife fight with a capybara. Over-enthusiastic pie baking. Elf on a Shelf needed to be taught a lesson. Extreme trick-or-treating. They do fade, but they are still cool.

Had both of my knees replaced by age 50. Best advice: Do all of the exercises, even if they hurt a bit. Also - make sure Mom gets up and moves around as everyone will tell her to do. And keep it moving. Muscles/tendons will need to re-learn and stretch to get back to a normal walking movement.
