Ever since my 4 year old son found out Djo played Jeremy on Stranger Things, he's been asking me if every band I play was someone on the show. Today on the way to daycare (I can't have him around during the day when I Livestream) he asked if Knocked Loose played Harry 😂

The thing I have learned after years of environment art research is that manually mashing a bunch of really good rock models together will pretty much always get you better results than any clever procedural solution you can think of

Same thing just a different custom primitive data value? Ofc you could also do a dynamic material instance and just set any number of scalar offset values that way too

In unreal I'd have it all in an atlas then use custom primitive data to offset the UVs to line up to whatever face I want. In blueprint you just set the offset to the corresponding face you want to make. You could tie the offset to the relative location of a control bone, or pick faces from an enum

is this exposed to the material editor too for use in shaders? I really wanna switch to godot at some point and this is a crucial feature for my art style

We should have language that unifies them somehow. For my personal use, it's ok to call everything a game, but I want more people to understand that going to the museum and walking in the areas you're allowed to walk and taking photos has much more in common with games than it doesnt

Personally I think there is a human phenomenon where we all like agreeing to follow a set of rules because it will give us a certain experience, and in english we've labeled some of those sets of rules games and others experiences, but they are intimately linked and i think

I need to add something like flashy or crazy to my game because all the things I'm interested in don't seem to get any traction online at all. Maybe I can just spawn a bunch of rigid bodies and say something about optimization

very frustrated right now. I want to make 3D art, but every time I sit down to do so lately I am struck with paralyzing fear/anxiety. I can do all sorts of other things just fine, including drawing (a thing I used to get anxiety about) but not this. I will try to do it anyway
