Often when forest ecologists think of sucession they think of the aspen that spruts following wild fire. Yet, there is also the moss. May be facultative for desired conifer species to regenerate and survive harsh conditions, making post-fire mos critical successive species. #forests

I’m personally also dreaming about this old Morman Homestead where Buffalo Bill raised beefalo and Teddy Roosevelt schemed about remote national parks.

Sometimes I dream of wetter places. Here’s a throwback to the springs that emerge from basalt; the water that percolates into the loose soils of strata volcanoes and flows through the earth, until the impermeable Great Basin losses the toes of lava and forces the water out. The magic of springs.
