Because that's just not how Nintendo typically does game design, they like to innovate and reinvent their mascots with a flow of weird and wacky new ideas every game...it just didn't work out for Star Fox quite as well.

"leave the story and endings infact" wow that's bold, that's basically the main thing most Star Fox fans from my experiences would want changed, especially in regards to how it handled Krystal.

A beta title screen from the E3 2010 Star Fox 64 3D leaked demo, which uses art seen in Command's prologue. Additional footage of Corneria can be seen. Using patches, a hidden level select for both Corneria & Meteo can be found.

a very appropriate callback in this case considering the final boss arena in Bananza is obviously a homage to DK64.

I was thinking how I felt about this localization change before: on one hand, "King of Rot" obviously sounds metal, but the JP title feels more in line with his previous personas, especially in DK64 where he goes by King "Krusha" K. Rool, (cont)

From the JP version of DK Bananza, K. Rool's final form is given the title of Rotten Banana King, King "Rotten" K. Rool

"But Bananza doesn't present us with a name like "Rotten K. Rool," as though that descriptor is specific to how he exists in this game; his name comes first, and his newly claimed title follows it. Rot is who K. Rool is, and has been all along. " Heh, funny you say that...

Miyamoto's decision? It was ultimately Rare's, per admitted by SFA's director. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO7o...

1. Nintendo owns SFA outright just as they do with Rare's DK games
2. Nintendo's also already worked it out with Microsoft for like 13 other of their Rare games for NSO so clearly that doesn't matter lol

As in, it's not a completely weird off shoot like Adventures (despite also having land combat of some kind), it's not build around wacky control gimmicks, it tries to tell a new serious story with new enemies and characters and isn't just a plot retread of SF64, it's not Star Fox Command, etc

15.10.2025 13:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I've always felt a lot of the praise for Assault in recent times seems to be of the old saying: "in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king". What I mean is, despite how actually kinda mediocre a lot of the execution is, it's also the one post-64 SF title to hit most of the right notes.

15.10.2025 13:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I guess the PAON games I can kinda get because they're some kind of platformers (plus they did clearly try to continue Rare's world and characters, more than something like JB), but if Konga is a "mainline game", does that make Mario Kart, Party, RPGs etc "mainline Mario games" as well?

12.10.2025 19:07 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Probably because it was already out by the time this was made, which I presume to be shortly after E3 2014. Same reason there's no Pikmin 3, 3D World, etc from what I can tell.

A cartoony drawing of a scene featuring Star Fox spaceships and robots, reimagined as cutesy creatures. An Arwing shoots a laser at a moth-like creature in the air, while a round slug-like creature watches from the ground. In the background, an Arwing is chased by a pointy orange creature, another Arwing flies high, and a big gray creature with long arms carries a blue pole.

What if Star Fox was creatures?

Yeah it's a somewhat common misconception, James WAS rivals with Wolf (and that's why Wolf wants to fight off Fox so badly), but it was ultimately Andross and Pigma that did him in.

2. Rare themselves didn't have enough faith in Dinosaur Planet as its own late stage N64 original IP, so they willingly accepted Miyamoto's offer to essentially combine their two projects and move development over to GCN. Per admitted by its director, Lee Schuneman: youtu.be/rO7ocvmoDBc?...

It was basically because
1. Nintendo themselves were already wanting to make an action adventure SF game in Kyoto, it wasn't going anywhere because it was late into the N64's lifespan and the staff were being pulled away to work on more important stuff like Mario and Zelda for GCN

and unpopular in PAL regions. SNES and N64 sold 23.35 million and 20.63 million respectively, whereas in other non-JP regions, they sold 8.58 million and 6.75 million respectively. Meanwhile in Japan, the SNES sold 17.17 million...whereas the N64 sold only 5.54 million. God damn.
