Combat is coming in the next update (hopefully) in June. And then the next update will introduce security and breakouts + human casualties.

"we just liked making new kongs", according to Tiny's creator, Mark Stevenson. Also wanted a character that fitted with the shrinking ability better.

the Gyrowing, etc. It's just that, well, all of that experimental stuff is usually seen as the game's undoing lol. "Why can't Nintendo just do SF64 with no gimmicks but with at least a different plot with new levels" has also always been a common sentiment, and that's kinda what WB is trying to be.

I am going to give Zero some small credit: it's only really an reiteration of 64 on the surface level (audio and visual stuff), the actual gameplay/mechanics (which is what truely matters to Shiggy I guess) are just as experimental and wild as ever, with the 2 screen control gimmick, the Walker,

Gregg Mayles on X: "@ReturnTheDKCrew Not much. I designed the end of game K.Rool fight but that was about it. I was busy working on Banjo" / X @ReturnTheDKCrew Not much. I designed the end of game K.Rool fight but that was about it. I was busy working on Banjo

It actually was, kinda: the final K. Rool boss fight in DK64 was designed by Gregg Mayles, the lead designer of the Banjo series. It was the only part of DK64 he did any real design work for. x.com/Ghoulyboy/st...

Well to be fair, everyone hated it when Star Fox tried to experiment and be more than just a basic rail-shooter with at best, occasional all range modes.

And according to former Imagineer Joe Rohde, the reason to why they made their Carno so bulky was because they needed a bigger design to fit all of the animatronic equipment in it. This basically created a new subspecies: "Carnotarus Robustus" www.instagram.com/p/CUT5PSrr2K...

23.02.2026 14:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

There's a real actual reason to why it's so bulky: because the crew behind DINOSAUR adapted this Carnotaurus from Animal Kingdom's Countdown to Extinction thrill ride which was in development around the same time as the film (they even renamed it later to tie it into it more)

Overall I accepted the fact that Banjo was destined to fade into obscurity after Tooie either way a long time ago, but yeah at this point I'd prefer if it stayed with Nintendo just simply for the fact that, well, Microsoft wouldn't own it lol

21.02.2026 10:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

What with everyone expecting the next Smash to be a reboot that does away with most of the third parties, and what happened with Super Soccer being a bit ominous for 3rd party games on NSO, Nin owning Banjo would at least better secure stuff like that, even if it wouldn't really lead to new games...

21.02.2026 10:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I know we got the first two even with it being owned by MS, but there'd at least be a little more extra security, y'know?

21.02.2026 10:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

tbh I'd prefer Banjo to be rotting in Nintendo's vaults than Microsoft's lol. Plus Nintendo owning Banjo would at least lead to some nice perks: we'd get them in Smash, their games on NSO, and even get their OSTs on Nintendo Music.

So in a way, I feel like Zero was Miyamoto's response to "We want a fun game with mechanics similar to 64", just filtered through his game design philosophies.

08.02.2026 20:23 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

but I honestly never found it 100% entirely fair how people lump Zero in with SF643D (which IS a barebones remakester of the 64 game with redone graphics/voices).

08.02.2026 20:20 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here: Zero really isn't "yet another remake of 64" speaking purely from a mechanical standpoint, like the actual game mechanics and level design, for better or for worse, are very different from SF64. It's unfortunate how safe it is from a visual and audio standpoint
