-They were so concerned to make her the shining example of all women in the show that she was never allowed to be wrong, even when the simplistic dialogue left her grating to adult ears. Much like UFO's attempts at drawing attention to racism, its clear why the Andersons never revisited this.- (6/?)

-family antics display how aware they were of their audience even then. I think the Andersons pushed the envelope for the sake of adult drama and to show kids what sexism is so they could catch and push back against it irl. TBH their attempts may have only hindered Venus' character in the end.-(5/?)

-like any one rotten apple spoiled the bunch, or even the whole cart was rotten, but more Gerry/Sylvia doing what any good entertainer does; appealing to the masses. -pantomime with incredulously OTT villains, tendency to overexplain the most minor details and an acute spatial awareness for where the story takes place. -male leads of the episode, but also show key moments of her being integral to the mission. Dennis Spooner was a comedy writer, almost as unhinged as Tony Barwick, so thats why his scripts are so OTT compared to others. Anthony Marriott was a writer for the theatre so there's an element of- (2/?)

Only semi related to the topic, but its my only chance to talk about how Fireball XL5's sexism is completely misunderstood in modern context. Alan Fennell's output never features it apart from this episode. Both scripts by Gerry and Sylvia have little moments where Venus is dismissed by the- (1/?)

A set of six photographs from the production of series 4 recently came up on eBay, and I'm glad to say I was able to get them.

These are quite scratched at the edges, which would take weeks to fix, but are in otherwise great condition and colour corrected well. Enjoy!

I'll add to this and say that the Nelvana Rupert animated series is everything what I hoped Joe 90 would be, except for the lack of cool vehicles but that's more than made up for by the high stakes world ending danger as well as the fact that the kids get to act like real kids instead of caricatures

tfw Super ED is the closest the classic series came to ever adapting James & the Diesel Engines

Its hard to deny however the impact that individuals like Shane Rimmer and Tony Barwick had on both shows. Whether or not Shane could have stepped up to write some actual Thunderbirds scripts is a tantalising prospect that has lingered in the back of my mind. A 30 something year old boy can dream...

Was it the right call to stop making Thunderbirds and switch to Captain Scarlet? Would you rather see a third series of Thunderbirds but not have Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons? Or was 32 television adventures enough?

Tbh its hard to say for sure what would have happened had Thunderbirds continued but given series 2 was always commissioned to be 6 episodes I think Lew and Gerry were just about burned out on Thunderbirds being a monthly scheduled production, and maybe they saw the UA movie deal as a breather.

Series 2 plots felt like running on fumes after Alan Fennell left the studio, idk. But Alan Pattillo wouldn't have left if not for The Mysterons confounding him as a concept. I think Lew Grade had right idea, wrong execution. Not a feature film; instead 1 Made-for-TV movie/year side by side Scarlet.

my favourite thing about Supercar is the fact they straight up yanked the robots from Fleischer Superman's Mechanical Monsters short.
