Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

The centrists in the Senate Democratic caucus saw that the country was rallying to the party in the 2025 elections and resolved that they would do anything they could to kill that momentum.

I am amazed by the people who don't think this is going to further radicalize the left. Talk about not reading the room at all.

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

I Want You to Understand Chicago
Politics Chicago
2025-11-08

I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time.

Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again.

An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next.

Understand what it is to pray in Chicago. On September 19th, Reverend David Black, lead pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, was praying outside the ICE detention center in Broadview when a DHS agent shot him in the head with pepper balls. Pepper balls are never supposed to be fired at the head because they can seriously injure, or even kill. β€œWe could hear them laughing as they were shooting us from the roof,” Black recalled. He is not the only member of the clergy ICE has assaulted. Methodist pastor Hannah Kardon was violently arrested on October 17th, and Baptist pastor Michael Woolf was shot with pepper balls on November 1st.

Understand what it is to sleep in Chicago. On the night of September 30th, federal agents rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter to execute a raid on an apartment building on the South Sho…

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

But then they'll have Republicans on record voting against the subsidies when it fails, which is somehow different than...the past few weeks of Republicans voting down the subsidies when it would've reopened the government and avoided all this suffering and political blowback. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I've come to the conclusion they got the one thing they *actually* wanted--lots of people voted for them last Tuesday in the hope that they were an opposition party. Unfortunately that's not currently the case.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

Chicago is choosing justice over fear, as it has in the past In 1850, the federal government deputized local officials to enforce slavery. In 2025, it demands cooperation in deportation. Chicago resisted nearly two centuries ago, and it still is today.

🧊 ICE is going after sick or injured patients in Chicago hospitals!

πŸ₯ We need a model citywide policy to protect patients, families, and staff from harassment or unlawful detention + rebuild public trust in our health institutions as safe havens FOR ALL.

They're beautiful, aren't they? I love my drive through northern Michigan (not UP) to visit family. I know I'm getting close when I see all those windmills.

The view during the day is different than at night when they're all blinking, but not in unison. I love both views.

The Pentagon is restricting press access, and the NYT raises a serious First Amendment concern. The SecDef’s response? A wave emoji. It’s a childish mockery of accountability. But dodging scrutiny with memes is how authoritarians treat a free press.

Republicans are completely full of it on healthcare And it becomes more obvious every time they talk about it.

"Most Americans probably don’t have a detailed grasp of what’s happening with ACA subsidies right now, but once people start getting letters notifying them of how much their premiums are going up, it will become a much bigger issue."
