Over the past couple of weeks I have been sitting on the Railways Bill Committee, thoroughly scrutinising the Government's bill in detail. 🚂

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day - a day where we remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust.

My thoughts today are with the members of these communities.

I was on the radio last week talking about the Railways Bill Committee which has now kicked off in Parliament.

For the next few weeks, I will be scrutinising the Bill being put forward by the government, where I will be pushing for amendments to improve affordability and efficiency.

Pleased to hear that my efforts to get the new GP Surgery in Didcot have struck a chord with the Health Secretary.

🚂 I presented a bill for a Rail Passengers' Charter to be created. I highlighted the importance of investing in public transport that is accessible, high-quality and consistent.

The Charter will put passengers experience and value for money first, ensuring good intentions become reality.

In parliament, I asked the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office if they will seize the opportunity created from US funding cuts to health research.

The UK should take action to embrace world-leading researchers to support the Global South and boost the UK economy.

Trump is acting like an international gangster.

The Prime Minister has tried appeasing him for 12 months and has failed. It's time we finally stood up to him and united with our European allies to make him back down.

The new Road Safety Strategy is promising, but further scrutiny is required to ensure prompt and effective delivery.

I raised concerns on the impact of road infrastructure and ensuring our roads become safer for all users, including elderly and younger drivers.

Yesterday, I spoke with Sky News about the government's announcement on the long awaited plans for Northern Powerhouse Rail.

The government needs to restore the public confidence and deliver these projects on time and on budget.

Our plan to end the A&E corridor crisis 30,000 people wait for over 12 hours in A&E departments every single week - it's a national scandal and we have a plan to stop it.

As so often, it's the how as well as the what.

I was once at an awards event, and Rory Bremner was compère.

During a quiet moment, I thanked him for his work & shared my favourite memory (his portrayal of Michael Howard as a scary dentist in 2005). He was gracious and seemed genuinely grateful.

The proposed Railways Bill offers some welcome opportunities, but it doesn’t yet guarantee the improvements that local communities actually need.

With the Bill Committee starting in January, I’ll be pushing for meaningful change that delivers real improvements for our residents.

Government waters down farm inheritance tax plan The government has now said it will lift the intended threshold from £1m to £2.5m.

Glad to see this - this decision reflects the determination of farmers who refused to back down, alongside tireless campaigning from the Liberal Democrats.

However, many family farms remain at risk. We will continue to push for this tax to be scrapped entirely.

I didn't, I was trying to make trains run on time at the time.

That aside, I'm not sure it's the case that being in public sector=automatically better. For many years, more than half of the railway has been in public hands, and those parts, e.g. Northern, do not automatically improve.

Parcels repeatedly arriving late or not when promised is unacceptable. Evri's delivery reliability must improve, especially at this time of year.

Christmas is just over a week away, and I’m hearing from many constituents about problems with Evri deliveries, involving undelivered parcels and poor customer service.

Action is needed to ensure people receive their deliveries safely and on time, without having their festive plans disrupted.

Local sport groups bring people together, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for all ages - and they deserve greater support from the government.🏏
