The original Imitation of Life (1934) with Louise Beavers and Claudette Colbert is one of my faves and never fails to break my heart. All due to the incredible depth of Ms. Beaver’s performance as the mother who only wanted to love her daughter and have that love returned openly. Ugh! 💔💔💔

There was a robust movie industry for Black stories during the 1920’s-1950’s.

The movies weren’t shown in whites only theaters and many were banned from majority white cities.

But they existed & explored real world issues in our communities.

I recommend we all take a breath before sharing things that may seem to be real or we want to be real, and determine whether or not it's real. For example, no matter who reports something, wait for multiple confirmations, learn more about the topic, etc. It's better to be informed than first.
