Last Sunday marked my 32nd veganniversary -- the anniversary of my permanent adhering to a vegan diet. As is my custom, I celebrated it by getting the biggest, thickest steak in town and having it simmered in lard.

LOL. I actually went to Bloom. bloompb.com

On the topic of James Dobson's recent passing: James Dobson’s induction ceremony into the Radio Hall of Fame took place in Chicago. The event met a lively protest, and I made a short film about the protest for Chicago Independent Television:

For over a year I have been trying to measure the effect of the conservative religious forces on the United States high death rates. This graph shows the relationship between age 20-64 death rates and the measure of possible causes that I have found to be have the strongest relationship with age 20-64 death rates. Here are the r's for all that I have found:
Percent Southern Baptist r=0.81
Percent Evangelical in 2020 r=0.68
Percent Evangelical, Pew data 2017 r=0.73
Percent Pray daily, r=0.45, this is much stronger if elderly are included

Given how strong all these measures of religion are, I currently am going to use percent Southerner Baptist as a control variable in any analysis looking at the effect of other variables on middle age death rates.

Now how did I measure Southern Baptist. I went to the on line Yellow pages and did a search for the two letter state abbreviation and "Southern Baptist" fifty times. Down toward the bottom of the first page of the output is the total number found. I copied that number and pasted it to a data holding spreadsheet. I saved it and saved it and saved it in three separate places. That was over saving something that took less than half an hour to collect. If anyone wants the data, just email me at pecanjim(atsymblehere)bellsouth.net

Here are the other two regression stats and estimated rate for 100% Southern Baptist.
b = 4.01
a = 323.07 the estimate for 0% Southern Baptist
y'x=100 = 724.17 the estimate for 100% Southern Baptist

A final note: If we had 100% Medicare I think the appeal of religious prayer based health care would disappear. An earlier analysis I posted showed the the effect of percent Evangelical on death rates had gone down to right at zero before Obama Care gave Fundamentalist the right to offer health insurance and health care.

I now have pulled together from all the attempts I can find and figure out to measure how much conservative/religious forces increase death rates. See ALT to see why I focus on age 20-64. 🧪💡☠️ #Sociology #Population #Demography

This is a great thread! Monbiot quite perfectly captures how capitalism has colonized collective imagination. Rejecting capitalism is difficult for many, but maybe those who do should seriously engage with what comes after? Let's talk about why ideas like participatory economy (parecon) matter... 🧵🧵
