DATE AND TIME CHANGE FOR MY OFFICE HOUR!
Between Thanksgiving and other scheduling issues, I'm moving the November office hour to Monday, December 1, and changing the time to 6p to 7p at the Canaan Library.
Just a reminder I'll be at the Canaan Town Library, NH, tomorrow evening to talk with anyone who has a question or issue with state or county government.
26.10.2025 22:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mascoma Valley Regional School District, like so many others, is having trouble finding school bus drivers, which is why I proposed introducing this legislation highlighted in Friday's Valley News.

Hope you'll check out my first Substack post, making the case for Democrats to act more boldly in response to the onslaught against our democracy nationally and here in NH.

Late reminder I'm holding an office hour tonight starting at 6:30p
22.09.2025 21:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An update on my Office Hour tonight.
18.08.2025 16:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My second Office Hour this Monday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Canaan Town Library.
14.08.2025 21:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great discussion last night on public education funding with Reps. David Luneau & Hope Damon & Mascoma Valley Regional School District Board Chair Tim Josephson. I'll email slides to all who signed up. If you couldn't make it & want the slides, email me at Thomas.Oppel@gc.nh.gov.
12.08.2025 17:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good conversation last week with @repgoodlander.bsky.social on Goose Pond in Canaan. She and I are both focused on finding solutions to maintain health care at the Mascoma Community Health Center.
12.08.2025 14:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just a reminder, our session on what's next for public school funding is tonight at the Canaan Meeting House at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there.
11.08.2025 13:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If you're interested in property tax relief, our public schools, our economic future, or all of that, the NH Supreme Court's decision in the ConVal case is a key. Join us Monday night for this important discussion.
09.08.2025 23:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As we warned, this was inevitable. NH Republicans deliberately underfunded vouchers to hide the impact on taxpayers.
Vouchers are now millions over budget, so YOUR taxes will rise to foot the bill for the super rich's private-school tuition.

05.08.2025 17:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As always, concluding Canaan's Old Home Days celebration will be the annual service at the Old North Church on Canaan Street, across from the Canaan Street Cemetary. This year will also feature a special celebration, honoring the Noyes Academy history. Don't miss this special event today at 4p!
03.08.2025 18:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great turnout for Saturday's Canaan Old Home Days parade, including Canaan Democrats parade crew! Big thanks to Chair Paul Lambert, Jane Strohl, Chuck Townsend, Executive Councilor Karen Liot Hill (and Zoey) and Grafton County Commissioner Katie Hedberg! Always a great weekend!
03.08.2025 18:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now that the NH Supreme Court has established just how much more the state should be providing to support public schools and reduce property taxes, what's next? We'll discuss with an expert panel at the Canaan Meeting House on August 11 at 6 p.m. Join us!
30.07.2025 22:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You may hear people say that cutting Medicaid services is about saving money. The truth is, they are right. It is about saving money - for the super rich - while working people are cut off from basic healthcare.

First monthly office hours tonight drew 6 people, great conversation about what's been happening at the State House in Concord. Thanks to Canaan Town Library for hosting. Looking forward to my next office hour, Aug. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
29.07.2025 02:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was exactly 6 months ago that this administration issued blanket pardons to everyone involved in the January 6 insurrection.

(Trump attempted a coup in 2021 so miss me with the false equivalences)
Enjoyed Goose Pond Lake Association annual meeting Sunday & Canaan Street Lake Association Saturday. Have 7 loons on Goose Pond, 5 on Canaan Street Lake! Big congrats to GPLA President Micheal Riese and CLA President Karen Henry, boards & all wonderful volunteers!
21.07.2025 00:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.
Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.
Do not.
Trump wrote the playbook, Gov. Ayotte followed it in New Hampshire state budget: gut Medicaid, reward the ultra-rich, and squeeze rural hospitals dry. #NHPolitics

Trump blatantly lies about what he said during his shakedown call with Zelenskyy in 2019 (there's a transcript!)
14.07.2025 17:45 β π 1352 π 375 π¬ 152 π 39InDepthNH's Garry Rayno spells it out. When elected Republicans promote the "New Hampshire Advantage," they mean only an advantage for the wealthy and well-connected, while the rest of us pay their bill.

Proud that my school district, Mascoma Valley Regional, was one of the 18 districts that brought this successful suit. Now it is time for the Legislature to meet its constitutional duty.
01.07.2025 17:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A few days before the fiscal year ends, NH Republicans nearly failed to pass a budgetβthen scrambled to pass a reckless CR slashing $700M from our state. Donβt balance your failure on the backs of the sick, elderly, poor, and working class. #NHPolitics
