Join Dr Renan Maestri (Dept. of Ecology, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul) for a five-day, hands-on macroecology workshop that teaches researchers how to turn large, messy geographic and phylogenetic datasets into rigorous maps, metrics, and testable hypotheses using R and RStudio. Designed for PhD students, postdocs, faculty and professional researchers in ecology, evolution, biogeography, and related fields, the course bridges conceptual macroecology and reproducible research practice: you’ll learn to manipulate large spatial databases, grid-map species and trait diversity, incorporate phylogenies into spatial analyses, estimate diversification and historical dispersal, build evolution-aware bioregions, link diversity to environmental predictors, and produce publication-quality maps and reproducible R workflows. Live Zoom sessions combine short lectures with guided coding, real-time troubleshooting and optional discussion of your own data; recordings, materials and a monitored Q&A forum are available for 30 days after the seminar, and participants receive an Instats certificate of completion (ECTS-equivalent noted where applicable). A basic-to-intermediate level of R is assumed—register to gain practical skills you can apply immediately to thesis chapters, manuscripts, and grant projects.
