11.03.2025 15:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If that sounds like your thing, the Kickstarter ends on Thursday so make sure you check it out before then! You can back it and received a copy of the game for under 20 USD.
And if you're not sure, then there's a demo available on Steam.
I talk a lot about the lamentable lack of Mesopotamian-inspired games and media, so it would be insane of me to not share this Kickstarter
www.kickstarter.com/projects/myf...
It's a Lovecraftian point-and-click mystery game with Mesopotamian influences (the main character is called Enheduanna!).

11.03.2025 15:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I got an email notification from our local health department that we have a confirmed case of measles one county over from us. I'm incredibly relieved that my kids have all been able to be vaccinated, but worried for those who haven't.

Oh absolutely, 100% in favour of this.
17.02.2025 22:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy lapel pins with an "Indiana Jones punching fascists" vibe? Bonus points if the purchase supports anti-fascist work!

15.02.2025 00:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not only was this absolutely fascinating, but Dr. Podany's enthusiasm is contagious. If I wasn't already obsessed with Mesopotamia, then I would be after that interview!
13.02.2025 18:07 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0AND thanks to Eli Tadmor for pointing out on Facebook that the scribe at the back is likely writing on a wax writing board, not a clay tablet - I always forget those existed!

Always been curious about how people like you lived 4,000 years ago? Now's your chance to ask an expert your questions!
This isn't the flashiest segment of a Neo-Assyrian palace relief, but I absolutely love it. It shows two scribes, one writing on parchment (probably Aramaic), and one writing cuneiform on clay. Little details like this make my heart sing!

11.02.2025 16:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I had -so- much fun reading this and talking about it with Maya. She's a total delight :D
11.02.2025 16:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Daniel Snell's "A New Workbook of Cuneiform Signs" is also a great resource for this type of study!
11.02.2025 16:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's an amazing book!
Like other people have suggested, definitely start by choosing a specific time period; cuneiform changes a lot over the centuries and having a basic starting point of Old Babylonian, or Neo-Assyrian, is really helpful.
I like that idea :D
11.02.2025 16:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Wow I got the other half of @digital-hammurabi.bsky.social on the podcast this week! Some fun topics like Solomonโs temple, the time God couldnโt get hard, and that cheeriest of subjects, slavery!
08.02.2025 01:10 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Did you know that the word for โgodโ is a plural in Biblical Hebrew? ืึฑืึนืึดืื (elohim)
We know it's a plural because of the way the word ends. The "-im" sound is the ending that indicates masculine plural nouns - similar to the "-s" ending of some plural words in English, like "dogs"!
Rays definitely are awful, and if you ask my mum, Tims are likewise a bit dodgy.
I married a Josh, so I'm biased on that one :D
NEW VIDEO! Our latest video is our best one yet! Check it out to learn about the scientific research into an old historical mystery: whether the prietess at Delphi was stoned on geological vapors?
