Alex on twitter writes: "Someone on Twitter writes: "You’re a menswear writer. You don’t know anything about manufacturing in America, or steel mills, or metallurgy, or CNC machining, or how anything is produced from raw material into a finished product in this country or anywhere. Stick to writing about “men’s fashion.""
I reply: "i actually had a career in knifemaking before this. the reason why you can't avoid tariffs in knifemaking is because everyone relies on Gobelin machinery. are you aware of this?"
Alex replies: "Gobelin machinery? What exactly are you referring to?"
I reply: "you Gobelin DEEZ NUTS!"
"stick to menswear"

Angela Carter: see, the way it works is you take an existing myth or legend
King: uh huh
Carter: and then you add the 3 Rs
Carter: you REimagine
Carter: REcontextualize
Carter: and REinvent
King: and this works for any myth or legend?
Carter: any myth or legend!

We need to teach people the difference between being uncomfortable and being unsafe. Because the discomfort of the safest people is endangering the most vulnerable, all day every day.

Star Trek SNW is generally delightful, but it’s disappointing that it seems to have only two alternating plots now: Grimdark Terror and Wacky Shenanigans.
Why? The structure of scripted genre TV in the 2020s as an expensive sprint through 8-10 episodes every couple of years.
More thoughts later…

Saw this at the BFI once. IIRC it features Sid James delivering the deathlessly menacing line: ‘Lydia, I’ve warned you not to make fun of my yoga!’ Yes, the devilish oriental practice of, um, downward dog is the film’s horrifying macguffin 😱

Something More Than Free (10 Year Anniversary Edition)
Jason Isbell · Album · 2025 · 12 songs
There's a rich irony that the surprising new remaster of Jason Isbell's Something More Than Free, which takes the original tracks and completely remixes them to create almost a different album, consistently brings Amanda Shires' harmonies and fiddle much, much higher in the mix

@moderation.bsky.app @bsky.app Is it policy that UK users need to verify ID in order to use the mute function? If so, why? Or is this a bug accidentally created in the new roll out? Clarification urgently needed.
24.07.2025 14:23 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
Oh it's even worse than that - @bsky.app appear to have disabled the ability to mute words & phrases for UK users who don't verify ID. WTF has that got to do with 'protecting children'? If this isn't fixed, I'm done here :-(

Ozzy Osbourne raised $190 million for charity as his last public act. The televangelists who said you’d go to hell if you listened to his music all ended up having child brides or swindling your grandma.
