A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.

This makes me so happy. This film, anchored by Michael B. Jordan’s performance, is so deeply meaningful to so many of us. Lovely to see this upright, talented young man recognized for his superb portrayal. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Unlikable characters. No one to root for. Other contenders gave more hope.

It's on HBO and I tried to watch last night, but vampires just too much for me. Horror is good genre for race issues.

They're all carnival barkers trying to fleece you of your money and your constitutional rights. Some are more aware than others of how deeply untrue all of their BS -- but they know it's BS, even the carnival barker in chief.

Luttig: Every single time Donald Trump opens his mouth or takes an action, the American people are forced to go into court and litigate. That’s the tragic place America finds itself in today.

It is only the Supreme Court that is standing in the way of the American people saving their country.

“This man fought our war for 10 years,” VanDiver added. “He had six kids, one of whom is an American citizen. He was brought here by the United States of America. He’s been working hard in Texas, paying taxes ... He was doing everything right.”

Afghan asylum-seeker dies in ICE custody, US advocacy group says Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal is at least the 12th person to die in ICE detention this year.

He wasn't just an asylum seeker. Paktyawal was an Afghan special forces soldier who worked with the U.S. Army's 3rd Special Forces Group. He was evacuated on August 30, 2021, entered the U.S. legally and had a pending case with a work permit and social security number. Killed by ICE maggots.

That's what happens when the US population sees no imminent threat to themselves and backs the war only half-heartedly (because they think it's their patriotic duty to say so) or not at all. These are wars not fought on our soil.

The Iranian regime is filled with terrible people. Among their many crimes: 1) They kill protestors in the street. 2) They meddle in elections and won't accept unfavorable results. 3) They don't understand irony.

So, if we had taken climate change seriously and spent the funds we use to subsidize fossil fuels on building worldwide alternative energies and fuels, Iran would have no money and the Straits of Hormuz wouldn't be that important. It's almost like renewables and green tech are national security.

Definitely not enough, and definitely better than what Trump is doing now by actively partnering in war vs. Iran. But difficult to know without deep study exactly what the limits Biden could have enacted, what the limits were on Biden from Dem establishment, etc.

Ordinary everyday people ARE "acting like it". Minnesota, and protests at Tesla, Target, Home Depot. People in the street EVERY DAY, No Kings, What I don't see is ELECTED OFFICIALS doing more than just talking. Picket the Supreme Court. Stop all action in Congress. Picket the White House. SCREAM.

There wasn't one even partly likeable person in the whole film.

Psych! - Digby's Hullabaloo Nobody could have seen $5 per gallon coming Certainly not the Trump White House. What's war got to do with the price of eggs gas? SNL's Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) and Pete Hegseth (Colin Jost...

“You might remember me from such campaign promises as lower gas prices and no more wars. We love to make promises because a promise is just a lie that hasn’t happened yet,” SNL’s fake Trump reminds viewers.

Give the writer of that line a bonus. @digby56.bsky.social

The emphasis on attention each piece gets is destroying the news industry. Some of the most important stories can’t compete with fluff— but they need to be reported.

Imagine an op-ed written by one--would read much like Trump's truth-social posts or meandering speeches, except not as literate, and more explicitly racist.
