"Spain’s wind & solar growth has reduced the influence of expensive fossil generators on the electricity price by 75% since 2019. This decline in the hours where the electricity price was tied to gas power cost was faster than in other (fossil) gas-reliant countries"

New poll finds Labour’s anti-nature rhetoric is costing voter trust.
After Keir Starmer called environmental protections misguided, 19% of 2024 Labour voters are less likely to vote Labour again.
Attacking wildlife protections is not a winning strategy.

#Climate breakdown shrinks the amount of time people can safely go about their lives. Rising temperatures, driven by #fossilfuel burning make it hard even for many young, healthy adults to do basic physical activities, such as housework or walking up stairs

“These latest attempts at environmental deregulation aim to tilt that balance ever closer to private gain, by fudging the lines and asserting that developer gain is the same thing as public good.”

Perfect storm of climate and nature collapse, cyber security risks and geopolitical unrest means we are vulnerable to food shortages and that would be very bad indeed.

Our film launches on 7th April.
Hosted by Chris Packham, it features footage from the National Emergency Briefing along with reactions from the public.
It's designed to be watched in communities across the UK along with their MP.

In 2023, I sought to explain to a parliamentary committee what a structural collapse of the global food system would look like, and why this this is plausible - even likely. I think the likelihood has just ratcheted up a notch. I beg you to read and understand. Thanks

A Nature Communications study confirms it: 2014–17 bleaching hit 51% of the world’s reefs.
Worse than any event before it.
Ocean warming is accelerating. Irreversible reef collapse is now “near certain” on our current path.
This is extinction in real time.
Once decimated by a global fungus, the green & golden bell frog is hopping back into Canberra.
375 frogs reintroduced. Immunised. Microchipped.

We broke the system, but we can repair some of it.
New study in the National Academy of Sciences warns climate breakdown could shrink global grazing land by 36–50% by 2100!
That threatens 100M+ pastoralists and 1.4B livestock — mostly in low-income, fragile nations.
This is how climate breakdown fuels endless hunger, displacement and conflict.

So UK needs as much roof area collecting sunlight as possible to help meet growing demands.
Bottom line: Pile on renewable generation and storage, achieve demand stability, use energy with utmost efficiency and sparingly and only then can we cease to rely on burning fossil fuels.
6/
Importantly electricity is only about 20–25% of total UK energy use (transport, heating, etc. dominate). So renewables are far less than 50% of total average annual energy consumption.
BUT...
UK electricity demand: ~300 TWh/year
Potential rooftop solar generation: ~200–300 TWh/year

At the start of 2026 Labour MPs rejected the New Homes (Solar Generation) Bill, often called the Sunshine Bill, that would have mandated solar panels on all new homes from October 2026 ignoring XRUK demand two = ACT NOW.

Most Biomass, e.g. from DRAX is controversial. However introducing large scale renewable energy storage would displace some electricity generation from burning fossil gas and biomass. The amount displaced depends on how much storage exists and how long it can store energy.

It’s an annual average.
Wind: 83.3 TWh = 29.2%
Solar: 14.4 TWh = ~5%
Hydro: ~2%
Biomass / bioenergy: about 40 TWh ≈ 13–14% of UK electricity.
Total renewables: 143.7 TWh = 50.4% of UK electricity
