The Sh2-117 complex - an HII region in Cygnus with strong Ha and OIII signals. The nebulosities in this region bear resemblance to the North American continent (centre-left) and a pelican bird (centre-right) and they were thus given corresponding names.

The bright HII region Sh2-117 at the tail of the Swan, where the famous North America Nebula and Pelican Nebula are located.

This stack from last night is only 1.7 hours of exposure with an almost full Moon overhead.

A star-filled sky over the coast. On the right, a comet pointed down. On the left the Milky Way. In between, Venus whose reflection can be seen in the water. The remnants of sunset are on the horizon.

Got the comet, Milky Way, and Venus out at the coast. πŸ“·

A vibrant, infrared image of Barnard 335, also known as LDN-663, a dark molecular cloud. The image showcases a complex network of gas and dust illuminated by nearby stars, creating a striking cosmic landscape. The colors represent different wavelengths of infrared light, revealing hidden details of the cloud's structure.

Barnard 335 (LDN-663): a star being born.

The image is divided horizontally by an undulating line between a cloudscape forming a nebula along the bottom portion and a comparatively clear upper portion. Speckled across both portions is a starfield. The upper portion of the image is blueish, and has wispy translucent cloud-like streaks rising from the nebula below. The orangish cloudy formation in the bottom half varies in density and ranges from translucent to opaque. The cloud-like structure of the nebula contains ridges, peaks, and valleys – an appearance very similar to a mountain range.

One of my favorite JWST images, the Cosmic Cliffs in the Carina Nebula in molecular hydrogen. πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

This image selects narrowband filters from the original "Cosmic Cliffs" image to highlight the shocks and outflows from forming stars.
