It looks like my next laptop will either be a Framework or ThinkPad.

Anyone running a daily driver? Would love to know who is enjoying their *nix system.

Do I just need to pay the pet tax to boost my feed?

Perhaps a better media feed is one that only unlocks AFTER youโ€™ve spent 30 minutes with another human outside of your house. What do you think skyfam? Can we steer course away from dopamine addiction or are we just going to spiral into idiocracy?

Weโ€™re now neck deep in the stripmallification of the world where even travel has been reduced to eating a croissant and drinking a coffee in an instagrammable cafe. Our tastes and desires are being so recklessly whittled down to where you live is simply a matter of your preferred weather and budget.

Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business

A great read (just substitute 24 hour news and cable tv for social feeds) is Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman bookshop.org/p/books/amus... you can see that every technology that has involved a screen has kept us planted in place and engaging with our neighbors and community less.

08.07.2025 01:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There are a confluence of forces which have aimed us in this direction, however a constant among them is that ultimately this use of technology simply replaces cable tv for our attention and advertisers & special interests want to make sure they get a slice.

I specify federal political identity because there was a long standing social norm of not discussing such things in public and party ideology usually wasnโ€™t the first thing people cared to know about you. Perhaps unavoidable now given (gestures at everything), but also something that is prevalent.

Donโ€™t get me wrong, big fan of the lockdowns personally. They saved lives. Just also saying that it was a large cultural moment.

I have to wonder if thatโ€™s not just algorithmic takeover, but also a cultural artifact of the lockdowns and federal political identity overtaking other aspects of personality for priority in relationship building.

Iโ€™m not a fan of Gary V, but a snippet from one of his talks hit my feed and he mentioned how weโ€™ve moved from โ€˜socialโ€™ media to โ€˜interestโ€™ media. That is, weโ€™re no longer centered on relationships but rather on our feelings about the content in the feeds.

The time spent trying to recover will be the entry point for private markets to lock-in modern serfdom.

Dang, 64k followers and rocking single digit interactions.

It's not just that post either.

We can see some pretty clear downtrend overall so it's not just summer break or a one-off. bsky.jazco.dev/stats

This looks more like churn, lack of habit formation, stronger anti-bot fixes, or some combo.

I choose to remember her like this. A bizarre dog who made all kinds of sounds, was exited just to be near you, and absolutely LOVED food in all its forms.

Paris you were the goodest of dogs.

I will miss you more than breathing.

There are so so many mistakes you make as a parent. So many regrets.

She helped us to learn through all of it and I am a better pet parent to Pixel because of her.

As she got older, she ran less loops around the backyard, but occasionally would still surprise us with a bolt towards a squirrel.

Paris the wookie
YouTube video by alexwykoff Paris the wookie

Paris crossed the rainbow bridge today.

She was a rescue from the humane society in middle-of-nowhere PA.

Undoubtedly one of the most clever and hardworking dogs I have ever seen. She learned tricks in the flash and we called her our circus dog.

Iโ€™d be pretty wary of this tbh. Apple already tried the โ€˜bolt-onโ€™ approach to AI with Siri.

The question on my mind is why is it that 15 years post-acquisition Apple has not managed to build the engineering roster and culture necessary?
