The Worst and the Dimmest It's not a coincidence that we're being led by the least qualified monsters available; it's a deliberate strategy. Facing the Worst - a series about directional alignment.

I wrote about the worst people in the world, charting the depths of their depravity and vastness of their incompetence, and offered some thoughts about the opportunity presented by their failure to acknowledge reality and their refusal to access any form of human virtue.

I do want to say though: Work is ongoing to deter the varroa mite problem. While curing AFB is huge, it's only one of around 20 viral diseases the mites spread, and the mites themselves are devastating enough that they are capable of destroying a colony without the help of viruses.

This is great news! As a beekeeper, we always dread finding AFB in any of our hives, because right now the only long-term "cure" is to euthanize the bees and burn the hive boxes.

Yeah, sometimes my brain thinks the only two languages that exist are English and Not-English. And if someone talks to me in English with a thick accent, it wants to reapond in Not-English. In New Zealand at the moment: "Cheers, Mate." "Buen dΓa fΓΌr dich auch, merci!"

Got to see some of the eclipse today from Boise, Idaho. Yay for the double polarized glasses trick when you can't find your actual solar glasses in time. #LivingDangerously

Former Twitter power user here: this is a misconception of how twitter works. Twitter is largely responsible for the very blood feuds he's talking about. In the face of aggressive opposition, almost nobody changes their mind; most people double down. There's even a name for it: dissonance reduction.

It really is! (For display, it should have been rotated 90 degrees clockwise, but wouldn't fit in the cabinet otherwise.) Tash managed to snap this photo during a hive inspection in June. We got around 6 gallons of honey off this one hive this year!

In fact, we had the highest score of all the beeswax entries with a near-perfect 99/100 rating (we lost 1 point on "creativity"; funny because the rules for the category literally require you to submit a single block of beeswax). Anyway, I think that means we won "Best in Category: Beeswax" ?

Also, we got a chance to have a closer look at the competiton results and it looks like Tash's photograph of our "Tamera Hive" queen (titled "Long May She Reign") got second place in the beekeeping art category, and our beeswax block got first place in the beeswax category.

Natasha and I got to volunteer at the PCBA booth at the state fair today. We had so much fun talking with people about bees that before we realized it, our 4 hour shift was done! And then we got caught up in another conversation and were at the booth for an additional hour before we realized it. XD

The Finger-Taker's Son Rules of engagement, and what it means to find "common ground" with supremacists.

I wrote about a murder in the state where "'woke' goes to die," the people who want to be held innocent of making such things inevitable while insisting we persuade them to stop; about rules of engagement w/supremacists and what it means to find "common ground."

Have you tried pouring boiling water down your drains? Sometimes they lay eggs in there and boiling water will kill them.

On Monday, my wife and I went rafting on the Salmon River. It was her first time, and we both had a great time, eh!

This is how much we got from three hives so far, two of which are crazy strong this year. It also helps that we had just the right conditions this year for a couple strong nectar flows in our area. And we may actually end up with another harvest next week!

First post, I figure it makes sense to show something of my far too many hobbies. :)

8 gallons harvested, extracted, filtered and bottled! This year's first honey harvest has a moisture content of 16.8% and a flavor that is a little less floral than last year's (but is still very delicious!)
