A chilling read as a UK citizen

I hope our health leaders don’t wait until this stage to speak out &realise their role now is a lot different to their recent predecessors

I don’t envy them- but public health depends on it

“we know that politics are complicated. But this is bigger than politics.”

I used to wonder why med-tech investors don't have independent experts, especially medical statisticians, evaluate whether the tech actually works. I eventually realized that they simply don't care.

It still concerns me that the only direct consultation with marginalised groups on the #AssistedDyingBill has been the tiny bits I’ve done

I summarise the key findings here

MPs must not take the silencing of these groups as reassurance

I had to switch back to Twitter for ‘knowledge mobilisation impact’ … more engagement by MPs/media there sadly.

You’ve inspired me to come back though

The next hours are crucial for the safety of the Madleen.

The Israeli media announced that the IOF will siege the Fredom Flotilla and arrest the people on Board. Now that the signal of the Madleen has been jamed an attack of the Israeli IOF is to be expected.

‘Stress crisis’ in UK as 5m struggle with financial, health and housing insecurity Exclusive: Levels of ‘multi-stress’ at highest since 2008 crash, study says, with people feeling profoundly powerless More than 5 million UK adults are experiencing a triple whammy of financial, health and housing insecurity as British households hit levels of “multi-stress” not seen since the global economic crash well over a decade ago, research shows. One in 10 working-age adults are juggling low income and debt, insecure tenancies and high rents, and problems accessing NHS care. They are at least twice as likely as the rest of the population to report mental stress, sleeplessness and isolation. Continue reading...

Working in the inequalities space when you come from multiply marginalised communities is heavy atm

I’ve been feeling it

But this week, my son’s wonderful teacher, who cares deeply, went way above and beyond. It’s lifted my heart and humanity.

It felt impt to share-love&care are the antidote

As Dan Hitchens notes in this piece, not all hospice doctors are ‘anti’ assisted dying. But the strength of feeling among the hospice workforce about this legislation, and the unintended consequences (for patients, staff and the wider sector) outlined here, can’t be ignored.

Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare.

Scotland grew faster than UK in latest three months Scotland outperformed the UK last year and in the latest three-month period

Good to hear.

All those socialist policies of the Scottish government maybe aren’t that bad an idea after all?

250 historians of/in the UK just signed this letter that *specifically* excoriates the Labour Party for enacting this anti-trans bigotry.

Historians don't fuck around when it comes to condemning monsters, nor the cowards who stood by and let it happen.

Disabled women know more than most how blocking access to toilets isn’t a minor inconvenience - it’s a form of segregation from everyday life. It is turning down drinks with friends as you worry you can’t fulfil a basic human need if you go out. And knowing society has made the choice not to care.

So, can the EHRC please explain what would happen to me, as a trans man, if I need inpatient hospital care?

I can't go on a men's or a women's ward, according to them, so in an overstretched NHS in which siderooms are a rare luxury, where do I go?

Am I dumped into a corridor, or just refused care?
