Having lived for seven decades, I often reflect on defining moments in recent American history. There are few as dark or dreadful as January 6, 2021. The United States has been in decline since President Carter left office and that fact culminated on that sad and shameful day instigated by Trump.

Trump, ten years ago, was able to communicate his plan to restore The American Dream - only marginally better than a toaster.

So much focus is placed on the profound lack of character and courage of so many members of Congress. The real issue is: How the hell did they get there? Dark money. Ignorance. Citizens United. Right-wing media. Religiosity. Apathy. Uninformed voters. Non-voters. Weeds must be pulled from the roots.
