And it's not like Magneto has shied away from being connected to real life events. He was retconned into being a survivor of the holocaust. And as such, one cannot divorce him entirely from those associations.

To be a villain again, Magneto could be used to highlight that IS A REAL comparison to show him committing absolute atrocities and using the justification of what was done to mutantkind as a total absolution of what he does. That he is off the hook *no matter what.*

I dunno. I think Magneto is better served as an example of how extremism is not the path to take and just leads to more ruin.

How do I put this? I think there IS A REAL life situation that shows how a marginalized group can use real tragedies to justify them inflicting more pain unto others.

And there's a difference between "Taking a comic too seriously" and "This book shouldn't upset me in any way."

And, again, I understand the changing societal pressures that make Magneto's testament more appealing.

But in that case, I do think it's *more* important to push Magneto more into the role of villain to show why such indulgences don't lead anywhere good.

Maybe not a cackling "I'll destroy the *WORLD*" type. But perhaps as someone who it is made clear is more focused on setting *himself* up as king of the world rather than a true leader of equals.
