In just two days, we fall back to Standard Time. More sleep, here we come!

The only thing I feel confident about is that deep down they are not true believers. Neither is brilliant, but they are smart enough to get into an ivy law school and thus to see Trumpism for the bullshit it is.

So whatever their motives, separate and together, they’re not ignorant.

Totally possible Usha is bought in to this and willing to debase herself just as her husband does if it gets them both closer to the throne.

Maybe she just wants a particular life for her kids and thinks JD is a great provider. Maybe she regrets it all but is staying for the kids.

Yes, this is obviously true, but his entire career has been an exercise in cowardice, at least since he left the Marines.

We have no fucking clue what their marriage is like tough. It’s fun to speculate. He’s killing democracy and she’s at least along for the ride and a fair target.

Not at the top of my list of political concerns right now, but I sometimes reflect on how many authoritarian regimes purge military leadership to ensure political loyalty and then go on to lose a war in spectacular fashion.

Moulton is a moderate who is hoping that by opening the door *just a little* to anti-Jewish feeling, he can borrow some of that Mamdani energy to win his primary - then wedge the door, thus far and no farther. He hopes to control the hatred he wants to use. But it will use him.

Democrats taking money from AIPAC don't have the independence or moral clarity to lead our party.

@sethmoulton explains why he is not only rejecting AIPAC money but returning it:

I've talked about it before but an underrated reason as to why the pro-Israel consensus is collapsing is the sheer maximalism of its adherents. David Frum is saying, explicitly, that if you're anti-AIPAC then you're antisemitic. This actually under-cuts his goal, if he were smart enough to see that.

This meme is my Roman Empire, except that I think we’re focused on the wrong thing. Obviously holders of capital do this.

The central fact isn’t why or if they do it but that it works. Not every time, but very often. The reasons it works are *the* key to understanding American politics.

It depends how one defines anti-Semitism. I know many Jews who equate, to varying degrees, criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism.

Even if one accepts that, Mamdani would have basically no ability to translate his views on Israel into policy and the decision to focus on him is baffling.

You’re not taking a GLP-1. You’re taking a GLP-1 agonist. I am prepared to fight this stupid usage war to the very end.

But I have copied-and-pasted code snippets like every dev does. I don’t need to reinvent the wheel. But I do check every time to make sure (1) it does what I want and (2) I understand it.

In my time as a lawyer I cite-checked everything multiple times. Why are lawyers using GenAI not doing that?

29.10.2025 10:52 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I have had a few conversations recently about lawyers and judges using GenAI. Some are getting caught and sanctioned as their briefs include citations or quotations that don’t exist.

It’s the laziness and sloppiness that hit me. I don’t use GenAI and maybe that makes me a dinosaur.

Nearly a Century Ago, American Chestnut Trees Died Off. Now, Hikers Can Walk Among Them Again. Efforts to restore the American chestnut comprise "one of the most epic conservation stories ever told.”

Oh hey, a reason to be hopeful: groves of American chestnut trees have once again become self-reproducing in the wild.

Turned off comments so 12 people don't show up to tell me why this is actually very sad. Be happy, you assholes.

Just my opinion, but I think disliking inflation is secondary to voters being morons who don’t even know what inflation is.

Tweet from Mike Davis reading:

“We should only help people who can't help
themselves.
It's outrageous 40MM people get food stamps.
Get off your fat, ghetto asses.
Get a job.
Stop reproducing.
Change your shitty culture.
Stop giving food stamps to immigrants.
We don't want you here, if you won't work.”

Unironically agree with half these lines when applied to JD Vance’s extended family and everyone like them.

The New York Times’ “Moderation Advantage” Is a Statistical Illusion After accounting for money and incumbency the supposed electoral bonus for moderate candidates vanishes entirely.

A good read raising intuitive and important points. The Clean v. Corrupt platform Bonica endorses is one example of an important point that not all moderation is the same.

Your district matter.
The issue matters.
How you moderate matters.

Cancel culture *is* the First Amendment.

When you cancel someone you are freely speaking about what you believe they have done wrong, choosing to not associate with them, and often assembling to petition the state or a private actor to do something about those wrongs.

This in fact perfectly reasonable, but I don’t like it as an explanation. I want to believe being a shit-tier human and supporting a shit-tier team is more than an accident of geography.

part of what gets me is the particular double-think involved in left-nimbyism. left nimbyism has been the dominant mode of thinking in urban governance for like fifty years, they won the war and achieved total control of policy, and they *still* think they're the plucky upstarts fighting The Man
