"Last year there were ten murders in the NYC subway system, with well over a billion total rides taken. During the same time period, there were 253 traffic fatalities in New York City. One person dead every day and a half. Cars? Those things are fucking dangerous."

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)

You’ve had success having a point of view on your show, as Colbert has, at least in the ratings. Late night used to be broad, unifying entertainment. I know Jay Leno recently spoke on this topic, about making a show for everyone …

I’m going to take a hard pass on taking comedic advice from Jay Leno.

John Oliver just says the thing. I'm happy for him.

stomp clap was popular in the early 2010s, just like all those songs about how we were gonna have good time at the club that night. it was a very optimistic era and a lotta people didn't have internet they could carry around with them yet. we gathered in person and had a good time

RFK Jr. backs down all the time when he gets push back, so if anyone wants to call, here's the HHS number 1-877-696-6775.
I'd also call your senators/reps as well.

As end-of-empire scenarios go it is so much more dignified to get your capital city sacked by the Visigoths than to have a bunch of illiterate rich people in their 70s doing it through a series of incomprehensible tantrums because their brains were defeated by their phones.

Get ready to drop Twitch, YouTube, various podcasts, etc.

This is it. This is your personal line. You either support platforms that take money for the Gestapo recruitment ads or you don't. You do not get a third option.

Please understand that if you air even a single ICE ad on your program, on your podcast, on your stream, you will never, for the rest of your mortal life, receive another dollar or another second of attention from me, or from millions of others.

I promise you, it is financial suicide.

Alex on twitter writes: "Someone on Twitter writes: "You’re a menswear writer. You don’t know anything about manufacturing in America, or steel mills, or metallurgy, or CNC machining, or how anything is produced from raw material into a finished product in this country or anywhere. Stick to writing about “men’s fashion.""

I reply: "i actually had a career in knifemaking before this. the reason why you can't avoid tariffs in knifemaking is because everyone relies on Gobelin machinery. are you aware of this?"

Alex replies: "Gobelin machinery? What exactly are you referring to?"

I reply: "you Gobelin DEEZ NUTS!"

Being right wing is so hard bc you’re not allowed to acknowledge any actual phenomena that shape the world, so when you try to describe something you just end up sounding like if a person speaking in tongues worshipped the internet instead of god

there’s an infomercial on tv for some brain pill for seniors called neuroq and i don’t think you turn this country around until you (1) shut down the fake supplements industry and (2) make everyone responsible eat all the remaining inventory on a livestream i can check in on any time i want

A black t-shirt. It features a mocked up screenshot reminiscent of an early MP3 player in a font not dissimilar to Susan Kare's "Chicago". The artist name "Death Cab for Cutie" is listed in several different capitalisation and punctuation styles, implying the player is loaded with files with carelessly and inconsistently-edited metadata, as if acquired from an unsanctioned unofficial distribution source.

Laughing out loud at how perfectly and specifically this piece of merch for Death Cab for Cutie's Plans 20th Anniversary shows evokes a moment in cultural history. Real "iykyk" energy.

of course, now conservatism is practically defined by a profound victim mentality, in which everyone else is to blame for your own shortcomings and failures
