Then try to understand where they’re coming from. Do not be sarcastic, snarky, get angry or defensive. Listen. Decenter your whiteness. You are not meant to lead every movement or every community. It’s your responsibility if you’re a content creator that claims to be antifascist to push the fight against racism to the front of every movement, no matter how small, otherwise you’re wasting everyone’s time because you’re not fighting the root of all oppressive systems. This doesn’t mean that you need to stop caring about other forms of oppression like transphobia or ableism for example, it means that you have to center trans POC and disabled POC in your efforts. Understand that unlearning racism is a life-long goal. You don’t suddenly stop having white privilege because you read a book or two on how to not be racist. You have to take action and apply this knowledge. Every single day. Check your own behavior first, don’t expect POC to educate you or keep you in check. Seek out answers on your own, ask genuine questions, make the effort to read up on history and material already written by POC on these issues.
