for better or worse, the game stood out because it wasn't like hyv's other titles and i think they could benefit a lot from leaning into being unique and refining it rather than stripping it away and doing what works for the other games. right now they look a bit aimless...

yup and it sucks because i'm sure they planned a lot of things that included it, so without it, they've likely had to spend more time figuring out how to fill the gap it left than they would've needed to otherwise.

it's literally so crazy i can't recall a time where hyv has ever been this on-the-nose about a mlm ship in their games. you can usually always tell what they're going for, but lycaon and hugo are so so obviously giving "exes trying to recover their relationship and try again" lmao

by giving them more lines lol. they never had to reinvent the wheel to let them be onscreen more, i don't think even one person was asking for them to do what they've ended up doing. tv mode had some problems but scrapping it entirely was a pretty bad play imo so i hope they revamp it next patch...

hugo's beauty is incredibly distracting i can never focus on what he's saying if he's on screen and i think that's nasty work by the character designers to have put me in this state .

i wouldn't put it past him fr especially because the say it with flowers quest indicated that hugo likes to go out of his way for anything even tangentially related to what lycaon is doing lol. if robin's feelings towards butler are anything to go by, i think hugo is pretty devoted to lycaon

i actually did it myself recently, and as far as i can remember he does not comment on anyone's scent at all. doubly crazy because it'd been years that they spent apart but he picked up on hugo's scent right away like...... LOL. LMAO, EVEN.

despite all my complaining about the story i've got to say they put crack in lycahugo/crownwolf . they hadn't seen each other for a long time but lycaon could still smell hugo on the proxy. is that not insane .

something to look forward to in terms of story, and them trying to figure out a different set of stakes has led to there being zero proper build-up as new concepts getting introduced feels very abrupt. i'm willing to give them one more chance to fix it in the next patch but man ..... lmao.

i just don't know, and i think the writers also do not know which is a problem. there was a fairly distinct lack of stakes at the start of the game, which had been to keep their identity a secret (and this has since been abandoned lol), so it feels like the game has been scrambling to give people

mind you, the storytelling was never one of the game's strengths, but you'd naturally think this would improve over time. instead, the game has opted to abandon any subtlety or nuance in exchange for hamfisted monologues that just Tell the story's meaning to you (looking at you astra-nomical moment)

not to mention that storytelling presentation and quality has actually managed to get worse post the soc episodes. zzz's character writing in and of itself is actually quite good, but crafting a comprehensible story with the characters is where it seems to get hairy for them for some reason

i do not think that the next natural avenue for them to take in response to complaints about the siblings lacking screentime was to...take away a pretty prominent aspect of their characters that made them unique by allowing them to enter the hollow unhindered?
