The Japanese government released reserve rice to drive down the staple food's climbing market price. However, the price has barely budged - and reserve rice is sitting unpurchased in many stores.

Japan Agricultural Minister Shinjirō Koizumi tried to brag that children's cafeterias, private orgs that feed kids in need, are using government reserve rice. But he got ratio'd by users asking why the *government* isn't the one making sure kids don't starve.

In terms of tourist destinations, Japan’s Toyama City has remained relatively overlooked in the West. That may be about to change thanks to a recent high-profile endorsement – and some in the prefecture say they’re looking forward to welcoming their new guests.

There are other factors as well, including schools lacking a camera person due to population decline, and cyber attacks against ill-prepared yearbook companies that result in information leaks.

The school yearbook may become a thing of the past in Japan. One reason: sickos using kids' pictures to make sexual content using AI. In July, a company reported finding such images and videos of 252 students online.

This has been a known problem for years - and Japan has been slow to act. We wrote about the rise in sexual assault by teachers and other trusted caregivers back in 2020 - six years before the above-mentioned tracking system will allegedly be live.

How does this happen? Japan still lacks a national registry that enables tracking and barring employment of people convicted of crimes against kids. It's working on it, but the system won't be live until 2026.

Police in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, arrested 49-year-old teacher Takagi Makiyo (not a foreigner) for allegedly sexually assaulting a student at a private school. Which is bad. What's worse is that it's his SEVENTH arrest and, somehow, the man is still being allowed near children.

Post from Yurinya apologizing for her husband's actions and saying that taking care of Shuna is her top priority
Personal statement for Yurinya about how she feels she's being seen as "a person who was cheated on" when she goes outside. She says she wants to run away or disappear but refuses to engage in self-harm. "No matter how I try to run away from reality, it won't change the truth. But no matter how hard I try, I can't come to terms with it."
Yurinya's account contains an official announcement of apology from Yurinya, followed by a personal statement posted within the hour about how the "affair" has devastated her. It's unclear if she's seen Shuna's posts.

In Shuna's X post (content warning for the ALT text), which has gone viral, she describes the alleged attack, which she says happened when she stayed at Yuriniya and Saito's place.
