It took all night and the cost to my sanity was enormous, but I did it!! PenC+ on all six of my Digital Minster Pendulum!

By the way, the clackers are really easy to remove, not that I would be caught dead doing so. My Pen Z's came with the clackers removed, I was actually pretty bummed. If anyone removed theirs and kept em for some reason I'd totally pay for em

Time to repeat the process! Five more times... Here's what the guts look like, for anybody electronically inclined.

Testing passed, screen is nice and clean, so finally, time for reassembly! No sweat, right?

From this point it was a "simple" process of reading the bin, disconnecting the reader, reconnecting it, getting another read, comparing the files against eachother, and patching. It was all fairly straightforward according with the modding guide.

From the perspective of a gal who has never used this equipment, this was all very confusing! But I figured it out.

The IC adapter and Dupont cables connected to the programmer. The cables from the top down are red, orange, yellow, white.

The same cables in the clip. They have been flipped 180 degrees, such that from the top down, the order is white, yellow, orange, red.

As it happened, I had to flip my cable strips 180 degrees, such that from the top down, the IC slots connected to the SOP8 chip as follows:

4, 3, 2, 1
8, 7, 6, 5

In other words, the red cable below, connecting to the "1", needed to be on the top right of the vpet's SOP8 chip.

I've never used one of these, and didn't have the context to understand the diagrams, so actually hooking up the XGecu was hard to figure out. I had my Dupont cables, my sop8 clip, and the adapter to plug the Dupont cables into the IC slots, but how to hook them up? In what orders do the cables go?

With that in place, I can finally get to the fun part: reading and writing the digimon with my xgecu t48.

Moral of the story: Never trust a 3D print for something you can engineer out of lego.

I tried nerfing the volume on account of the horrific screeching, but bsky kept amplifying the audio for some reason, so I muted it. Maybe don't try to unmute it just in case, though.

The vpet has been flipped over and front cover removed. Next to it, a 3d printed button holder, broken.

Aaaand here's the first hurdle. This vpet writes to internal memory every few seconds. It is necessary to hold down the reset button while reading and writing data. This freezes it so that you don't get a bad read or god forbid, brick your device.

...and the part I had printed to do so just broke.

Ditto. The battery has been moved. In the background, the screws have been attached to a magnetic slap bracelet.

A reasonable deal of care mist be taken to avoid breaking the speaker cable. I'd really like it if I didn't have to do any soldering today, thanks.

The battery gets in the way of one of the mother ward screws. Thankfully, it is just attached with a weak adhesive, ans is trivial to pry off.

A Digimon Pendulum Color 5: Metal Empire. The back has been unscrewed, and the Keychain and charging port stopper removed.
