Thanks to Matt for having me on, and thanks to everyone whoβs been listening and reading. Super cool to see the book out in the world and very rewarding to know that itβs a helpful resource!

04.05.2025 18:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Whoa! Jack Brown aka βThe Avid Assistantβ on YouTube reviewed my book, Every Frame Counts. He talks about what the book is, and just as importantly, what the book is *not*. If youβre on the fence, check out his review! #PostChat #PostSky

18.04.2025 08:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A stack of copies of the book Every Frame Counts, with one copy propped up on the stack.
A screenshot of page 96 wherein I say the name of the book *within* the book, which is how you know itβs a good book. There are goofy photos of me and Marco (who made the illustrations in the book) flanking the text, which is objectively very very funny.
I finally received my own copies in the mail. Canβt wait to read each one. Check out page 96β¦
18.04.2025 01:43 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Screenshot of an Amazon review which reads βBoy did I enjoy reading this book, almost as much as I enjoyed writing it. And I did indeed write it! Unfortunately, Amazon won't allow me to rate it 6/5 stars so I can only give it 5/5 stars. Cross-references were very helpful.β I wrote the review, thus creating comedy.
The cover of Every Frame Counts, the book being reviewed (by its own author.)
The reviews are in, the author approves.
PS: The page turning is due in part to both the compelling contents of the text as well as the helpful nature of the cross-referencing.

Frame.io has a great blog post breaking codecs down, too. Knowing how computers are processing video files helps you to troubleshoot more effectively. #PostChat #PostSky
It also allows you to laugh watching those videos I posted earlier in this thread because youβre like βno heβs right thoβ
In all seriousness, David Kongβs video from (gasp!) nearly a decade ago is still my go-to recommendation for those wanting to learn about codecs and containers.
25.02.2025 21:47 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I mean, 10/10 concept and execution. @alanresnick.bsky.social please do my audiobook?

Comedy is so important to me, and I cherish my short stint at UCB. I honestly I think Alan made this video for me and me alone, and everyone else is just allowed to watch it: #PostChat #PostSky

Unfortunately βEvery Frame Countsβ does *not* cover codecs like 1.2 Yums, Tizz 5D, or Horngut 222β¦ apologies, @alanresnick.bsky.social.
Other codecs and naming conventions are outlined in the Turnovers chapter though. Hereβs a screenshot of how I organize my DNxHR SQ media onto Nexis workspaces.
Itβs with this exact energy that I wrote the book, btw. #PostChat #PostSky

More on this around p. 113 (still awaiting final proof pages!)
Absolutely! The ISBN for the ebook is 9781003516491 and the link is below. I believe the cross references will be clickable and take you right to the pageβalso a file ripe for Cmd-F!

11.02.2025 22:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hope it's a worthy contribution to the community @dr0id.bsky.social and @coreyfrost.bsky.social have fostered here on social mediaβI don't post much and I'm not great at marketing (I'm an Assistant Editor, after all, not some PR genius).
11.02.2025 22:44 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0I talk a lot about @avidmediacomposer.bsky.social but it's a mix of technical and holistic tips, tricks and notes. Not a definitive guide, more so insight into the mind and workflow of a First Assistant Editor in a scripted environment.
