There are alternatives for the stuff I use, I think right now I'm just getting used to them
And as for booting (if that matters to you), you can configure it to enable auto-login, making it quicker to boot than Windows
- For multiplayer competitive games like Valorant, they use kernel-level anti-cheat, so playing on Linux is impossible
- The compatibility issues so far for me have been more with certain software that I used to use that aren't made for Linux than games.
- Generally there do tend to be a number of compatibility issues. With games, it's slim with what I play. If it doesn't work natively, you can do this and it'll work. For non-steam games, there's generally a bit of fuckery you have to do with Wine/Protontricks to get it to work.
19.01.2026 21:33 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0- For installing, you have to make a bootable flash drive and allocate space on your drive for it. Tbh, for Bazzite, for instance, you can read up on their documentation if you want to know more. It's super easy to read and follow!Steam is actually installed by default!

Well for starters:
- If you have nvidia, then I can't recommend Linux. Their drivers are close-sourced whereas AMD's *are* open-source, so they work wonders on Linux comparatively.
- Linux distros are just the kernel, which is combined with GNU operating system to get the OS. Iirc win/mac does both
Yep!
19.01.2026 20:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0ok yeah, using proton 11 and the jackbox megapicker fixed it. the hell?
19.01.2026 18:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'd also like to get 11 but Proton doesn't list it so lol

19.01.2026 18:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have 7-9. 7 works fine in game and if I stream the monitor, not the application. The rest have distortion so bad, it's legitimately unplayable

Gaming on Bazzite (linux) has been nice for the noticeable performance bump, but I think I ought to switch back to Windows sometime this week
There's a number of games I want to play (Jackbox primarily!), but they simply aren't compatible on it

Apparently for one of my classes I'm learning assembly (kinda). And there's no textbook for the class which is just... fun

14.01.2026 14:52 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Do you know what a phenomenon is, right? You can google the word if you don't.
14.01.2026 05:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also for Grendel, since I might as well elaborate on what I said lol
14.01.2026 01:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0How the oct geneses work from my understanding and what we know 1. they check the environment around them for potential phenomena and make them happen easier and amplify/improve them. 2. The phenomena are triggered by the genesis, not the other way around or on a case by case basis. In the case of Van and Grendel, making Mare appear is the trigger for Grendel. 3. They need a trigger to activate. I believe the trigger corresponds to what would trigger the phenomenon? 4. They seem to respond to a certain kind of phenomena. 5. In turn to 4, each genesis has its own ability/abilities that it will use to fittingly improve the phenomena it responds to 6. It collects data on the phenomena that it does help when they happen. This is intended to spur new innovations and inventions by collecting the data of said phenomena when they happen. Details regarding the data are never really specified, though it's established can be shared/transferred and analyzed 7. They're attracted to one another. What this exactly means is never elaborated on 8. They're fated to come into the possession of their true owner 9. They can work as intended or be reverse engineered and have the phenomena have the opposite effect/function 10. They can reject "observations." What that means, however, isn't clear Notably, the first and eighth seem to be outliers. AFAIK with the eighth, its parts individually work as a normal genesis or one that is weaker than normal. And when put together, it observes humanity's sins, and also has the capabilities of multiple geneses when it comes to assisting multiple phenomena at once. This system of helping and improving phenomena, and in turn collecting data on them, seems to be referred to as observation. Several of them also weirdly seem to provide computational power that is far greater than what currently exists in-universe
Here's what I got from DB1&2 on how the oct-geneses, if it helps you at all. So much it is "show, don't tell" and stuff that's casually mentioned offhand, it's odd.
14.01.2026 01:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1They're definitely mysterious, but not quite as much as you'd think tbh. Just having to pay incredibly close attention to catch a bunch of the lore behind them... was certainly a choice.
14.01.2026 00:45 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I really love Daybreak 1, but man, the explanations of how the Oct-Geneses and Grendel both work aren't delivered the greatest. It's too common to see oomfs who are caught up and think they're mostly a mystery at this point.
