When Doug Ford talks about signs being effective in controlling drivers' behaviour, I'm entering this into evidence:
Signs pointing out signs aren't even effective. π

Cool! I didn't know the background on the ruins. The project will allow for much needed water access and sitting space near the river. The only thing I noticed was that they are installing non-approved bike racks but that can easily be corrected with installing some proper staple or ring racks.
22.09.2025 22:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Love this project on Onigam St preserving the remains of this old stone structure, boat launch, green space, patio and a great view of the river and Centretown!
And it's a City project? π²π
In case you missed it today, great coverage about the recent bikelash in Canada from conservative politicians and what cities like Paris are doing right to reduce car congestion and improve mobility.

Pretty much directly out of the Fascism For Dummies playbook.
"Make sure you tell everyone they are overreacting".
Canadians aren't dummies. ππ¨π¦
I absolutely love how this photo highlights the fact that #bicycles are #mobility devices used by those who may have visible or invisible #disabilities.ππ²π§βπ¦½

16.09.2025 18:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thought this idea was progressive: a bill in NYC to allow residents to report illegal parking, and receive a portion of the fine. Many drivers park illegally for a short amount of time so that bylaw cannot arrive after they receive a report in order to issue a ticket.
16.09.2025 18:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good point!
16.09.2025 18:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The fine for parking on the sidewalk is $55 and in a bike lane $120.
The fine for parking in an accessible parking space with no permit is $500.
As they all impact #accessibility, why are they not all $500 fines? π§

Super smokey in #Hintonburg this morning from the area structure fire (not sure where it is). Wearing a mask this morning! ππ₯

13.09.2025 01:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm not sure if there was any reversal to ensure the funds go back to the RSAP budget. I'm guessing if the funds were spent, that cutting road and police budgets wouldn't be likely?
10.09.2025 13:22 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0These misappropriated funds would have fully funded fixing Ottawa's 29 most dangerous intersections for all road users π§βπ¦½πΆββοΈπ²π
10.09.2025 13:05 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For example, earlier this year, Ottawa's auditor found that @en.ottawa.ca staff misappropriated $41 MILLION dollars from the Road Safety Action Program to redesign dangerous intersections from red light camera revenue.
We need legislation to ensure these funds make it to #safestreets initiatives.
Speed cameras are an amazing tool for cities to curb illegal and dangerous speeding.
Ford is not wrong saying that they can be a tax grab.
He should implement legislation to ensure cities direct the funds to redesign those streets where speeding is a problem to make them safer forπ§βπ¦½πΆββοΈπ²π

The NCC consultation model is great, starting at a high-level as you mention, early on during a project phase. It defines early on what over-reaching goals the project should achieve with public/stakeholder input, then ensure it fits with official plans.
08.09.2025 13:26 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0A great example is the NCC's Gatineau Park masterplan that entails shifting motorized vehicle access to the periphery of the park. The opposition of reducing access for drivers was met with lots of opposition, but it is part of their published plan and they followed through with it.
08.09.2025 12:38 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0When a city implements an official plan with a goal of making it a livable city that includes policies like implementing complete streets, then the city should move ahead with these plans whenever projects are undertaken - no public consultation should be required.
08.09.2025 11:53 β π 6 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0As soon as you hear "beauty and character of the neighbourhood" to oppose steps to make a neighbourhood more #accessible .... NIMBY Alert!
I think a great compromise in this situation would be to turn these streets into pedestrian priority space! π§βπ¦½πΆββοΈπ²

For all the urbanists out there, on this Saturday morning, have a listen to @99pi.org anniversary special.
Roman's perspective on how to make cities better using little money: bus rapid transit. Paint some lines, reallocate resources. Easy and you move way more people around your city.
The Trillium temporary pathway is blocked off again this morning at 5:30am with no detour set up on Preston. π§βπ¦½π²πΆββοΈ

Love that! π
05.09.2025 13:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Glad to see it's reopened! When I went through the intersection there was a vibe that they were finishing up the intersection work.
When I saw the "pedestrians, go somewhere else" signage I debated the illegal sidewalk riding and negotiating the intersections, but the work zone was the safest.
Confirmed open. Night time closures of the intersection

When crews shut down the Trillium along this stretch in 2023 with no logical and accessible detour, we asked for just this but City staff said that 5 lanes for cars had to be kept open.
Interestingly, several lanes have now been closed for construction, but let's not discuss that. π
