Cool! I didn't know the background on the ruins. The project will allow for much needed water access and sitting space near the river. The only thing I noticed was that they are installing non-approved bike racks but that can easily be corrected with installing some proper staple or ring racks.

Love this project on Onigam St preserving the remains of this old stone structure, boat launch, green space, patio and a great view of the river and Centretown!

I thought this idea was progressive: a bill in NYC to allow residents to report illegal parking, and receive a portion of the fine. Many drivers park illegally for a short amount of time so that bylaw cannot arrive after they receive a report in order to issue a ticket.

The fine for parking on the sidewalk is $55 and in a bike lane $120.

The fine for parking in an accessible parking space with no permit is $500.

As they all impact #accessibility, why are they not all $500 fines? 🧐

The NCC consultation model is great, starting at a high-level as you mention, early on during a project phase. It defines early on what over-reaching goals the project should achieve with public/stakeholder input, then ensure it fits with official plans.

A great example is the NCC's Gatineau Park masterplan that entails shifting motorized vehicle access to the periphery of the park. The opposition of reducing access for drivers was met with lots of opposition, but it is part of their published plan and they followed through with it.

When a city implements an official plan with a goal of making it a livable city that includes policies like implementing complete streets, then the city should move ahead with these plans whenever projects are undertaken - no public consultation should be required.

Glad to see it's reopened! When I went through the intersection there was a vibe that they were finishing up the intersection work.

When I saw the "pedestrians, go somewhere else" signage I debated the illegal sidewalk riding and negotiating the intersections, but the work zone was the safest.

When crews shut down the Trillium along this stretch in 2023 with no logical and accessible detour, we asked for just this but City staff said that 5 lanes for cars had to be kept open.

Interestingly, several lanes have now been closed for construction, but let's not discuss that. 😉
