22.02.2026 15:41 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Oh, my bad, looks like it was 4:15 in total. (And now I’ve learned that the Nintendo app doesn’t update playtime in real time, so thanks for that!) This looks correct now tho because I hit the credits at 12:30am

Friday, February 21, 1986. 40 years ago this very minute (it’s a little past noon here in Japan), people were discovering Zelda’s secrets for the first time.

20.02.2026 15:04 — 👍 253 🔁 52 💬 2 📌 7I was fortunate enough to buy my FDS brand new in 1997 from a small mom ‘n pop shop near Akihabara that had them in stock. It came with two free games - Ice Hockey and Excitebike. Mostly used it to play the Japanese versions of Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Doki Doki Panic, and a few others.

How did you get it so quickly? Hah!
The “real” one is beautiful and definitely feels more like the authentic experience but the fact is, I just want to play the games, and for that, the cardboard jam seems more accessible.
Two other things: 1) you can’t take video while playing the VB app (boo), and 2) when you quit the app, you have to touch the screen to close it.
