It takes a bit to get all the panels lined up. The skin is made of a rubbery plastic that bends, so you gotta get the body inside to line up correctly.
Articulated jaw. This is a nicely sculpted rhino. And it covers the bot inside very well.
He pulls out his double gatling guns and opens fire upon any who dare hurt those he cares about.
A neutral pose for Rhinox. I love the bright green and the yellow against the beige rhino hide. They did a good job capturinf his essence from the show.
One of my favorite characters on Beast Wars was Rhinox. Intelligent, soft spoken, kind. He was a big bot with a bigger heatt. Which made it heartbreaking when his character did a 180 in Beast Machines. I love this figure, and I did not need to get the Kingdom version.

I definitely liked this version more than what Kingdom put out. He makes a nice big wasp.
A frontal view shows off some nice head detail with the forehead ridges and the compound eyes.
Waspinator is looking good in robot mode, with the head of the wasp mode planted on his chest. His stinger becomes his weapon, which is a nice touch.
Next up in the Generations line, we have Waspinator. Always the butt of a joke, it is a miracle Waspinator survived until the end of the series, considered how many times he was blown apart and put back together.

I think they were going for a more realistic rat mode here..both in appearance and in scale. He is about the size of a real life rat.
If I had to choose a downside, it is that standing up in two legs exposes the bot's limbs underneath, kinda spoiling the illusion.
The chatterbox himself, Rattrap is quick with a quip and fast on his feet.
He does come equipped with his blaster rifle and one more little surprise. Let's zoom in a little.
Open up his forearm to reveal explosive charges, perfect for fragging any Predacon stronghold. This little demolitions expert may be small in stature, but he will scrap with the best of them.
We move on to the next line that featured Beast Wars, and that is the IDW Generations figures from 2014.
Rattrap is demolitions expert and a little pessimistic, bordering on fatalistic.
He is famously known to quip, "We're all gonna die.." when things look grim.

Yes, there have probably been a lot better versions that gave him a better bot mode in recent years,Masterpiece and the Siege and Kingdom lines for instance, but they did try their best. I think the worst part is the backpack makes him very tippy.

Yes, I especially loved the hidden missile pods in his shoulders.

Velociraptor mode. He is more Jurassic Park style than scientific style, since Jurassic Park was pretty popular at the time. This is a pretty awesome sculpt, with a lot of skin detail my phone decided to blur out for me.
His little hidden gimmick was the ability to change factions. Would he choose to be a Maximal? Or a Predacon? Fans of the show know which was the true Dinobot.
A pulled back version of his bot mode, showing off how wide his tail weapon was. It was difficult to stand him up, considering how his leg joints are not as tight as they used to be. Also, it was possible to rotate his hands to give him the mote cartoon accurate clawed hands..or to give him fists to hold on to his weapons better.
More close up on the bot himself. Ultimately, a really cool blast from the past
The other Beast Wars representation in the Universe line, we have Dinobot. Transforming into a velociraptor. The Predacon-turned-Maximal warrior was well known for his banter with Rattrap and for his noble sacrifice in the series.

Cheetah mode. I do kinda like the profile here and the silhouette. He has the long forearms, which cheetahs are known for. Very stylized. He probably suffers from what most four legged animal Transformers suffer from, and that is how to hide the bot mode inside the animal. And I will try and point out which ones did it better as we go along.
We have a little gimmick here. The series gave Cheetor green eyes, but his original toy had reddish eyes. So, there is a switch on the back that opens his mouth, and as he opens his mouth, his eyes switch from green to red. Interesting touch.
Robot mode is very lanky. And most toys of Cheetor have the problem of not giving him a gun, but instead making a weird weapon out of his tail.
The arms are awkward and not easy to pose, since they are encased in the "shells" of his feline forelimbs.
A good chunk of his cat body is hanging off his back, and that makes him backheavy. He also has secret hidden weapons--shuriken hidden in his legs, rather like Animated Prowl in that the blades fold up. He does not hold them very well, but they are there for extra playability. His face is kinda dark and it is hard to see what is going on there.
I thought for my next series, I would take a look at Beast Wars. Specifically, all the bots that have come out after the original toyline. Let's see if these newer toys did the series justice. First up, Universe Cheetor. I will go over my thoughts in the pics themselves.

Yeah, I know. I wish you luck in your search. The only prices I have seen so far for the set are the scalper prices..though the original Siege figure is a lot more reasonable. Maybe he will get a re-release.
03.02.2026 22:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
There is still the Siege version of Trailbreaker that may be more reasonable..and Hound is getting a separate release soon. Keep an eye out.

A nice representation of the old camper style SUV he was in G1, they did quite a bit to distinguish him from Hoist. I have stickers for him, but I havd yet to apply them.
A bot that was in the Transformers line all the way back in the Diaclone days, he is represented well here. He comes with a gun that fits over his hand, and the back of his vehicle can become a shield for him. I love the headsculpt here as well.
I never managed to get the Siege Trailbreaker, so when Legacy put out the five pack, I was glad to get the Trailbreaker that was included. He is more gray than Siege was, allowing more details to be seen' and the painted windows help to strengthen the mold.

I kinda wish the battle damage scuff marks were not a thing, but there is little I can do about that. He does look like a nice utility truck. He has a folding connector that allows him to hook up with other Siege figures, especially the larger ones that had Base modes.
He comes in a nice shade of green, with orange and white to make him stand out as a utility and rescue service operator.
His gun can fit around his hand, giving him the gun hand look he had in G1.
Surprisingly, I forgot I had this figure and I am glad I discovered that I had him, and that gave me the inspiration to focus on these guys today.
Siege Hoist brings back the classic G1 look, and there is a lot of detail that sets him apart from his retool counterpart. The yellow and black caution bars..the utility equipment in the back. He is done up rather nicely.

Putting the hand/foot on his back helps to fill out the back of the truck more. I am glad they painted the rims and the windows here to make them stand out. Details tend to get lost when the figure is all black.
Trailbreaker was unique in that they gave him his cannon arm. I had to think about what pose I could put him in that was stable. Poses can be a little hit or miss with Combiner Wars figures.
Default pose. He comes with the axe as a weapon, but I have a lot of those weapons put away when they are in Combiner mode.
For Combiner Wars, we would get a Trailcutter/Trailbreaker as well, repainted from the Ironhide, Offroad, First Aid mold. He was part of the Skyreign combiner team by default. He is a nice shiny black, and the paint details on the sides are very nice.

If they put out Trailbreaker, you knew Hoist was just around the corner. Like Trailbreaker, the mold is pretty solid. He is painted a nice green, and he has enough retooling to keep him fresh. He, of course, comes with a folding hook arm. He and Grapple got along together.

A deluxe figure, they still were able to capture a ruggedness in this design. He still holds up well after all these years.
As a robot, Trailbreaker has some nice details and some nice paint apps. They also knew how to distribute his kibble well, giving him a clean look.
He poses rather well, and he has a great silhouette.
Generations IDW inspired figures were quite the thing in the early 2010s.
Trailcutter, or as G1 would call him-Trailbreaker. There is something about the older figures I miss. Their willingness to experiment with different designs kept you wondering who was going to be next

The only problem with transparent windows is how it affects the paint job. In the case of Earthrise Sunstreaker, we ended up with different shades of yellow.

Dustbuster mode! Activate!
He's got that grappling hook.
And we wrap up our little Jazz journey with the second Cybertronian Jazz design..this one from the G1 cartoon. He looks a lot like a 80s dustbuster, which makes this design fit even more, methinks.

Power of the Primes Jazz, released as an alternative limb for your combiner of choice.
Not to be overly critical, but the car mode could probably use more paint apps to break up the white. Otherwise, it is not a bad figure.
CW, TR, and POTP figures were a bit hit or miss..

There have probably been better versions of this figure released over the years, but I never had an interest in Bayverse Jazz..or his depiction in the films.
Still, it is not a bad looking car..though it is a bit plain.
You can attach ths weapon to the spoiler.
Jazz with shield and harpoon/sword weapon.
Transformers the Movie Jazz. Transforming into a Pontiac Solstice. Though I know it is not canonically accurate, I always felt that Jazz survived the Hasbro purge of 86 only to be killed off in the first live action movie.
Anywho, as far as figures go, he is a bit of a brick.
