AutoMLST2: a web server for phylogeny and microbial taxonomy Abstract. Accurate and accessible phylogenetic analysis is essential for understanding microbial taxonomy and evolution, which are integral to microbiology

Happy to announce that our β€žnewest old toolβ€œ autoMLST2.0 is out and published. You need an accurate and easy to use tool to build #phylogenetictrees from #bacterialgenomes: academic.oup.com/nar/advance-...

The Extinction of Truth Or, a Colossal Pile of Bullshit

I've written a Substack about the #ColossalBioSci #DeExtinction #DisInformation campaign; it's focused on polluting the information landscape, rather than the underlying science (except for species concepts, I talk about them)

Rapid Adaptation and Interspecific Introgression in the North American Crop Pest Helicoverpa zea Abstract. Insect crop pests threaten global food security. This threat is amplified through the spread of nonnative species and through adaptation of nativ

As I have a few followers now I figure I could post about some recent papers: @henrylnorth.bsky.social analysed sequence data from @theswordlab.bsky.social for North American Helicoverpa zea - we found just two individuals from 400 with introgressed armigera allele for insecticide resistance

Thanks! I'll have a look at some older ones and see if testes trend more pink. If pinkish, you'd go obscura? They are pretty big flies if that helps at all (near hydei size).

πŸ‘€ Enjoyed this perspective on the evolution of human commensalism! We need to quantify the degree to which species have evolved/adapted to anthropo environs and clearly define those environs. Plus I learned a neat new word: "synurbic". #drosophila would be great models for some of this!

My entire team wrote an opinion paper about Common misconceptions of speciation research. Each section is written by 1-2 team members. The bulk of the writing happened during two writing retreats. It was a lot of fun and I am very happy with the result. academic.oup.com/evolinnean/a...
