Accessible PDFs are a nightmare to produce in my current workflow but non-accessible PDFs are a nightmare for those who need support...this is super unfortunate! I want to do better here but also I wonder: why have LLMs not solved this?? This should be a super low hanging fruit with real benefits!

I use Quarto but then it's pandoc under the hood. With the right templates and lua filters this works quite well...but getting it to a point where this is the actual tool we use for (research) production is quite some effort.

Typst is awesome as a markdown-pdf transformer BUT as long as I can only submit tex or word files to journals there needs to be a setup that does typst ans also latex... I'm working on it 🤓

Do you also miss an elegant way to add table and figure notes in #Quarto #RStats? I've finally managed to put together a small Lua filter to make it easy 🤓 github.com/simonreif/no... currently only with LaTeX implementation, but hopefully I can add other outputs later 🚀

Finde das ein super spannendes Thema! Mein Gefühl ist: in der Wissenschaft sind die Leute ja eh intrinsisch motiviert, es braucht aber an vielen Stellen besseres Selbstmanagement. Nicht im Sinne von krasser Selbstoptimierung sondern im Sinne: "Der Arbeitstag hat 8h, wie mach ma des jetzt am besten?"

over the last ~20 years the applied theorist corps in econ has been hollowed out. now ~everyone is doing causal inference. good thing big policy changes with general equilibrium effects rarely happen and academic econ can stay "policy relevant"
