Consider how quickly the current trans rights struggle ends in a scenario where kids have rights beyond what their guardians want.

Minors' rights are trans rights.

PANEL 1: MATTIE is talking to a MAN as they walk on the street. The MAN is typing on his phone.
MATTIE: What do you wanna do tonight?
MAN: Hmm…!
MAN: What…do…I…want…to…do…tonight?

PANEL 2: MATTIE rolls her eyes. The phone pipes up as well.
MATTIE: Are you asking a chatbot? Come on.
PHONE: SEEING FRIENDS IS ALWAYS A GREAT WAY TO SEE YOUR FRIENDS.
MAN: Oh, are you A.I. SHAMING ME? Wow. I didn't think you were a bigot.

PANEL 3: MATTIE, arms spread wide. The MAN strokes his chin.
MATTIE: What? Nobody was doing this a year ago. It's completely unnecessary!
MAN: Huh, that's true. I wonder why that happened.

PANEL 4: The MAN types on his phone, brow furrowed.
MAN: Why…am…I…doing…this

We’re getting tons of retrospective analysis of COVID policies: masks, closures, comms failures, etc. But the other side of the “loss of trust in institutions” was a *deliberate effort* — by antivaxxers & right-wing influencers — to intentionally erode confidence in public health. No reckoning there.

Yesterday the Pew Research Center released a report based on the internet browsing activity of 900 U.S. adults which found that Google users who encounter an Al summary are less likely to click on links to other websites than use 's who don't encounter an Al summary. Hey is it bad if google AI search results stop people from leaving google dot com 99% of the time? All our news and information creators can survive just fine with one percent of their previous search traffic right? I’m sure it’s fine. www.404media.co/googles-ai-i...

whole thing feels like the dog that caught the car. racist and bigoted jokes are openly celebrated, no one cares about anything, all political discussion with a regular person ends in a “all the politicians are crooks” cliches. they won the culture war and it’s not fun anymore.

I knew we were cooked as a society when everyone just sorta decided they were sick of dealing with Covid and everyone just decided to pretend like it wasn't a thing anymore.

The only reason it wouldn’t feel like such a strange difference is because most of our media is still pretending it’s 1995: working class people have houses, they only have one job, Covid never happened so the characters aren’t sick all time. Making a movie about living in 2025 would feel strange.

There was essentially zero coverage of the disabled protest to stop Medicaid cuts. Capitol police dragged protesters out, many in wheelchairs, and arrested 34 people. It was barely a blip on the news because nobody really cares about the disabled.

It is horrifying that so many Americans simply shrug this off. There should be zero deaths under any administration. Zero. This is a bipartisan atrocity.

This is 10-12 tenure-track assistant professors’ salaries at many places. A whole academic program’s worth of money, pissed away, In Times of Austerity, on rent-a-cops going after students who dared speak. Nobody behind this should have a career.

I'm From Philly. 30 Years Later, I'm Still Trying To Make Sense Of The MOVE Bombing Philadelphia native Gene Demby was 4 years old when city police dropped a bomb on a house of black activists in his hometown. Thirty years later, he's still trying to make sense of it all.

40 years ago today, my City's government dropped a bomb on a residential neighborhood and decided to let the fire burn for almost two hours, killing 5 adults and 6 children. No city official was criminally charged. Bones from burned children were used in Penn classes. It will never make any sense.

The worst thing the far-right did to us was not to make us believe in things that are false, but to create an epistemic environment where no one can believe in anything at all.

the parsimonious thruline to so many things right now is that, one way or another, the prerogatives of settler states to liquidate populations and compel labor by any means necessary is nonnegotiable and trumps all talk of rights, values, norms, etc. its grim shit folks

Cop City is officially opening today, made possible only through extreme state violence –– including the murder of Tortuguita, clearcutting of forest land, and mass criminalization of protestors.

But the fight does go on. And support for those facing charges is still critical.
