To me it makes sense to limit user reviews to "yes" or "no". A kneejerk 0/10 or 10/10 would weigh more strongly than more nuanced scores in between. With yes and no you at least weigh everybody equally.

As with mail-in rebates there's gonna be a rate of people who would like a refund but don't get one, either because they took too long to decide on it or because it was too much of a hassle for them. Or maybe they just forgot.

That creates a selection bias towards people who like a game enough to play it that long. If the solution becomes that everybody gets good reviews then you might as well not have reviews at all.

People who only see that headline will likely switch to other painkillers which are much more dangerous to the unborn...

While the wider definition of retro means a thing designed to evoke the past we use the term in gaming to mean "old". In the general sense a SNES wouldn't be retro because when it was made it was current tech, only the SNES Mini is retro because it's from an era when the SNES was already old.
