It was a *lot* more fun approaching 20 in the '70s than it is approaching 70 in the '20s.

Archivists Work to Identify and Save the Thousands of Datasets Disappearing From Data.gov More than 2,000 datasets have disappeared from data.gov since Trump was inaugurated. But analyzing exactly what happened and where it went is going to take some time.

Good article on current "white hat" data preservation efforts.

Some of what is going on is known, some of it is normal. A lot of it is malevolent, and good people are aware and working it.

It's important to remember that data dot gov is primarily an aggregator; the data is most often elsewhere.

Be assured that there are a lot of very good people on this. Database cleanups happen with every new administration, but the malevolence is extraordinary this time. A similar situation happened with Trump 1, so it has been more than expected.

I am seeing a trend with real, experienced Systems Administrators. (As opposed to "Devops.") There is a dearth of well experienced senior-level talent that can use a command line. I know several that can write their own ticket on stuff like this; there's not much of a back bench at present.

Ehhhh. Not so fast as all that. The execution of the Presidential Order is paused; the Order remains for now. Still illegal.

Starting a spreadsheet of "Trump's Obviously Impeachable Offenses." Congress holds the purse strings, and the executive branch is supposed to faithfully execute the law.

I'll start with:

- Blatantly illegal Inspectors General dismissals
- Funding freeze of allocated grants and loans

Trump is operating on the presumption that he has unlimited power. The rest of us are operating in the reality that he does, until he is stopped cold.

What he is doing is clearly against the law. But if no one enforces that law, it becomes an exercise in semantics.
