Immigrants have created an enormous fiscal surplus for the US government … The $14.5 trillion in savings from immigrants is the equivalent of 33 percent of the total inflation-adjusted combined deficits from 1994 to 2023 without immigrants.”
That fellow having brunch at the diner will still get his waffles. But he will miss Jose, and millions like him, in more ways that he can easily imagine.

Welcome to the resistance, George Will——America needs immigrants as much as they need liberty’s blessings www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I lost my job, my kids have measles, and gas is six dollars a gallon. But at least now they’re not tearing down a statue of a Confederate general that I’ve never heard of in a city that I’ve never been to.

Talarico: "As a former educator, as someone who fought for students & kids in the halls of the Texas Capitol, it makes me sick to my stomach to see our foreign policy take the lives of innocent children in Iran & in the Middle East. It has to end. We need a foreign policy that reflects our values."

Talarico: "There's another war in the Middle East. There's a cost of living crisis. There's a secret pedophile ring & no one has been prosecuted. So the people responsible are trying to distract us with the same old culture wars ... what do the American people care more about -- pronouns or prices?"

I'm sorry, I suspect that just about anyone with reasonable knowledge of current events and history could have predicted this. Perhaps they should have consulted with some social studies teachers?

Trump only got into Wharton after his family pulled strings and got him an interview with an official who did a "special favor" to the family. A Wharton prof later said he was "the dumbest goddamn student" he ever had.

So, yes, his admission does say a lot about how smart he is.

Imagine what his, and Republican, poll numbers would be now if he had focused targeted deportations only on violent criminals (like he had said he would), hadn't instituted tariffs, and hadn't attacked Iran.

Trump has tremendous difficulty with principled people (even if as with the Iranian regime, the principles are bad). He assumes everyone is a transactional fraud like him. Works well with rich Americans and poorly with idealists of any stripe
