Completely engrossed by, yes, you guessed it, The Eighth Life. It’s 1985. Chernenko has died, and the Gorbachev era has begun. Page 691 out of 934.

The best! Slice the cauliflower into four, arrange on an oven sheet, spray them with olive oil, and, because you can’t be faffed thinking of anything else, sprinkle with that spice blend you mixed up a while ago to use on chicken wings. Bake at 200 C and remember to check it before it burns.

A white plate and an assortment of vegetables as described in post. Lots of veg. Lots of colour.
#kai World’s biggest portabella mushroom roasted with basil, confit garlic, red onion and Parmesan. Served with butternut ‘hummus’, cauliflower, kūmara and a salad of ‘super slaw’, mesclun, baby spinach, avocado and mixed seeds. All the vegetables!

I made good progress with ‘The Eighth Life’. Still less than 10 per cent of the way, though. (At 934 pages and in 10 point print, this one will be with us for a while!)

There's been this hit job on the Green Party by ACT's NZCPR, claiming money was "stolen" from water infrastructure for cycleways.
In fact, their Council invested significantly, more than others over decades.
They put $2.7 billion to 3W in 2021 and 1.8% of that on cycleways #nzpol

Dinner as detailed in post. It’s all very colourful and healthy: lots of greens, bright tomatoes and kūmara and a golden tahini sauce.
#kai Because it’s been too hot for anything but a clean-the-fridge dinner: a salad of mesclun, this week’s roasted vegetables (brassicas and violently violet purple kūmara), avocado, home-grown tomatoes and courgette, and pan-fried trevally with a tahini, lemon and chilli sauce.

The cover of ‘The Eighth Life’ featuring a silhouette of a young girl in the centre of concentric circles. The colours (hold and various shades of red) are evocative of Eastern European lacquer ware and painted furnitures
Finished The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend and Annie Barrows’ The Truth According to Us. Recommend the latter. Restarted Nino Haratischvili’s The Eighth Life (for Brilka) (trans. Charlotte Collins and Ruth Martin).
