Anyways, chile. I was just back in here for election night. Logging off for a few days until Sunday.

Now folks who are upset about what happened in Dallas are COMPLETELY valid, though I don’t think that changes things much.

Just be wary of online commentators saying they speak for Black people.

I’m sure many Black Texans voted for Crockett because they liked her, not because they hated Talarico.

People need to not read that into the race lol. This ain’t Georgia. You’re not gonna be able to win in Texas by alienating and saying Latino voters have a “slave mentality” for voting for Trump. You need a diverse coalition of voters which of course includes Black voters, to win.

I totally forgot about Québec. I’ve heard from Jewish friends how they felt walking in public with religious garb.

I have zero respect for people who are preemptive sore losers when their favorite politician hasn’t even won or lost yet. Bernie supporters did that in 2020 and it drives me crazy.

No politician of any race, gender, religion or what have you is entitled to anyone’s vote. You have to go out and earn it like everyone else and if you run a bad campaign and don’t reach enough voters, that’s your fault.

Hillary 2016 and Bernie 2020 supporters didn’t understand that.

Oh well I can’t speak for Jewish people. But with regard to the first thing, no it’s not. Nothing about Talarico’s campaign has been racist in the slightest. That’s just blatant slander from people who don’t like that Crockett had a tough opponent and wasn’t coronated the nominee

Religion is not this big divisive issue if people

A. Know what they’re talking about. Which a whole bunch of terminally online Bluesky users do not.

B. Are normal about it, and have a general respect and appreciation for people who are different than them.

I guarantee you the overwhelming majority of Black Texans, who are church goers by a wide margin, probably like Talarico’s faith expression a lot. Online discourse is not reflective of the reality at all.

Oh it definitely does. Nobody complaining about Roy Cooper or James Talarico knows what “religion” means. If they want to ban religious people from participating in public life and bringing their religious convictions with them, they should Google how well that’s worked out in France

If I behaved like that about atheists, even at my seminary, I’d be laughed out of the room. I grew up in a city with people of various different faiths and no faith at all. I was taught to love everybody.

It’s called being a normal human being

This frothing rage toward Talarico over his Christianity is bizarre. Was there a similar level of animus toward Raphael Warnock in Georgia? Or do people just really want Crockett to win and are letting their priors color their response?

Religious people exist and many are not in the same religion or belief system as you may be.

Getting over it and not throwing a temper tantrum is an essential part of existing in a religiously pluralistic society!

Cornyn did way better than I expected. Looks like he’ll finish narrowly ahead of Paxton or just behind him. Trump not endorsing in this race has kept it close. If he changes his mind however…

I’m stunned that Al Green is gonna lose

Guess we'll see how it shakes out, but even if Talarico wins clean without Dallas -- which, as of 10:07 pm CST, is looking likely -- Crockett has a right to be mad about the Texas State Supreme Court openly trying to fuck over Dallas voters. Just hoping she trains her fire in the right direction.
