I have tariffed
the penguins
that are on
Heard Island

and which
you were probably
assuming
did not export goods

forgive me
they were taking advantage of us
so cunning
and so cold

Clips from Senator Booker's Historic Speech - YouTube

I ran across this in today's @hcrichardson.bsky.social newsletter. Now I can watch what I missed yesterday.
@booker.senate.gov goes down in US history making good trouble: "This is our moral moment. This is when the most precious ideas of our country are being tested."

If this moment should remind us of anything, it is that history is always NOW

Sen. Booker’s speech was a substantive and moral account of this moment. He did not read the phone book. He did not babble.
For 24 hours @booker.senate.gov laid out a detailed, damning, and critical narrative of truth, history, politics, morality, humanity.

What will you do?

I mean, this would probably work for me, too.

Promising On election night, like many of us did in one form or another, I turned off my phone to sleep, woke up in the middle of the night, feeling anxious dread to check it, tossed and turned some more, woke ...

This was necessary to me this morning. I read about the Paris Agreement and knew I have one job. To fight for the Earth while they kill it. And if I can’t stop them, I will love it to the other side. I know how with dogs,
horses and people. I know how to stand in. www.torreyhouse.org/single-post/...

If you’re in the US, what’s your plan for maintaining your sanity through the incoming administration?

My favorite ideas so far: novels and poetry instead of doomscrolling, daily exercise (even 15 minutes is better than nothing), and maybe we don’t need to check the news more than 1x/day

As we face the saddest week in my lifetime’s experience of this nation, I say hold onto beauty where you can, love the Earth and one another.
