I hope this is not true.

Musician, composer, instrument inventor/builder, microtonal, experimental, rock, jazz, world influences, Hindustani, gamelan... dabble in visual art, mainly painting.
I hope this is not true.
27.01.2026 13:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For next time around, I highly suggest using Thomastik-Infeld Classic S Series Classical Guitar Strings. They last long, stay in tune well, and sound great. They also work well with electromagnetic pickups (which I make) which is why I know about these.

26.01.2026 17:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I like this album quite a bit. I don't mind at all that the lyrics don't seem to make sense on the surface... it gives them an air of mystery. I think Anderson took criticism of that too much to heart... his later lyrics are transparent new age cheese. He should've stuck with weird and cryptic IMO.

Not remotely interested in any piece of music that can be described as a "banger".
23.01.2026 15:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Really good to hear from you! I feel so disconnected from my past, and each chapter is like a self-contained unit. Most of my closest friends have left the planet, too. Feels good to reconnect.

I put my signed poster (Sun Ra and Marshall Allen) on my bedroom door in a shared house and forgot it when I moved out. :(
I found a copy of the poster online though... on some point I'm going to make a t-shirt of it.
See? I knew it would it pay off making you sign that thing saying you'd stay musically adventurous. :P XD
I'm still playing too. Moved to Seattle right after graduation, stayed there 9 yrs, was in NYC '01-17, now I'm in the Baltimore area. Good experimental music scene here.
Remember when we talked to Marshall Allen after the show? And then went to the green room and met Sun Ra? That was quite the night.
22.01.2026 17:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Holy crap!! How're you doing, man?
22.01.2026 17:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I ended up starting with the one I'm reposting here, because I liked it least and wouldn't mind if I screwed it up. This is the result:
22.01.2026 13:21 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Interesting update, with the gun and nuclear missle. Makes sense.
21.01.2026 13:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I met Sander, but didn't really know him. I believe he was the founder of SoftSkull. I vaguely remember there was some controversy he was involved in, but can't recall what it was about.
21.01.2026 13:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He was kind of the main guy, back in the day. My friend/housemate at the time, Don, was writing a book about the Unabomber for SoftSkull. He was out of town and called to ask me to open his mail... so now I can say I opened a letter from the Unabomber and survived.
21.01.2026 13:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Don't suppose you ever heard of Bakshish, or Neem? Bakshish used to play at the Ok Hotel and the Speakeasy a lot, mid to late 90s. Neem was earlier, played the Peace concerts, Lake Union Pub, among others.

headstock of one of my guitars...
When were you there? I was there from 92 to 01. Lived in Ballard for a bit of it.
21.01.2026 01:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Congrats! Hey, is Sander Hicks still at Soft Skull? I'm glad to hear they're still going.
21.01.2026 01:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm into a balance of order and chaos, and the contrast those create. A mix of composition and improvisation, diverse influences, trying to explore unchartered territory but with some portion of the familiar as an anchor/guidepost.
20.01.2026 14:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Whoa, that's crazy... I'm one day older than him.
20.01.2026 14:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The songs are a lot less complicated than teachers/professors in my past made them out to be. I like that studying these will give me insight into how these guys thought about composing.
20.01.2026 13:37 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So this morning I took my first crack at it... flipping to songs at random, not worrying about the heads for now, and playing the chords with both hands. I stay on each chord for extra bars bc it takes me a little time to find some of them (esp. the altered ones). Better than I expected.
20.01.2026 13:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks. I've never heard of them, I'll have to look them up now.
20.01.2026 01:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Checking out your youtube account now, and found your bandcamp through it. You have a lot more on youtube. Listening to Ad Astra, Ab Aeterno now... it's not grabbing me immediately the way this piece did, but I'll give it some time.
20.01.2026 01:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What would you say were the biggest influences on this piece and/or your style in general? And where can I hear more?
20.01.2026 01:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm just a few minutes in and I already like this a lot. It has its own logic, which reveals itself as you go. The closest thing I can think of is Cecil Taylor, but it's very different from his music. Nice work!!
