Just to clarify, is this supposed to be referring to CNN-NEWS18 in your search results? If so, it's actually a legit news channel in India that CNN runs with a local news partner (Network 18). π

A CSH study challenges the widely held belief that #emotions make us more susceptible to #misinformation. The study, led by @hannahmetzler.bsky.social, reveals that emotions shape our perceptions, but don't impair our ability to distinguish between real and #falsenews. π shorturl.at/FzHs1

Do you credit all the software you use in your research?π
In a new article in Computational Communication Research, we investigate when software gets mentioned in research articles and what makes a tool more likely to be cited.
Read it here: doi.org/10.5117/CCR2...
The timing of an emotion (before vs after news exposure) matters to understand if emotions influence misinformation belief. Further, it's not enough to say that people react emotionally to misinformation: People react with anger both when they believe and disbelieve false news items. More details π

I would interpret this as a result of "quantity before quality" design of social media (and ultimately reflects the business model), where everything, the velocity, the scrolling, the thumbnails, the share button, encourages this (+ motives of signalling identity rather than sharing information).

π In this comprehensive study, I explore the nuances of far-right social media communication through the unique perspective of technology affordances.
Arlie Hochschild introduced this idea of βdeep storiesβ. Deep stories are the stories we (groups of humans) tell ourselves about who we are, what our values are. They reflect our hopes, fears and anxieties. Importantly, deep stories donβt have to be true β they just have to *feel* true.

Proud of the work this great team did to understand whether viewing an online video of someone sharing their personal experiences with antisemitism might shift the attitudes and online browsing behavior of the viewers.
Takeaway: we found reduced time spent on antisemitic websites.
