Shouting into the twittersphere to ask whether anyone who's attending #AERA23 has more info about childcare for infants?? It obviously has not been offered since 2019 but that's all I can figure out. no replies so far from the (presumably very busy) conference team 🙃

We at @AnnenbergInst published a short paper on how we managed to assess Head Start children via Zoom (!) during the pandemic!
@leiahjgthomas put literal blood, sweat, and tears into this work and it turned out phenomenally. Go take a read!

TAKEAWAY 2⃣: HOWEVER, our Head Start kids made learning gains in exec function, literacy, and numeracy that are comparable to what they would've learned in a typical pre-pandemic year. 6/n
TAKEAWAY 1⃣: Our Head Start kids attended FAR fewer days of school during a pandemic-affected year. Kids who started in in-person HS attended 13 days/month in-person.
^ should be 20ish/mth if attending everyday.
FYI, this is also far below avg pre-pandemic attendance rates. 5/n
(During the assessment year, our kids chose b/w attending in-person VS. virtual. In-person was the same as before plus COVID protocols.
Virtual kids' caregivers received recs for learning apps and offers to meet weekly on Zoom.📱
But NO enforcement, learning checks, etc.)
4/n
We all know COVID severely disrupted schooling - but weren't sure what we'd find with our littlest learners.
We randomly assessed 336 Head Start kids across four states 3x in a year via Zoom.
Yes, we got 3/4 yr olds to sit with us on Zoom. Nope, NOT an April fool's joke 🤡
