The really fucked ones are the ways that it reinforces historical oppression, devalues oral histories, de-emphasizes the importance and presence of failure, erases queerness, blackness, disabled folks, indigenous folks, etc.

It's a real flattening force.

All the enemies have that like, milky/panic eyed look to them that makes me uncomfortable. Except for the red eyed orphanage kids which are the only enemies I don’t like u_u

I thought it was implied one of them (because they were twins(?)) was a very large and mutated child which makes the standard “hungry, mine! My food” dialogue really sad. Like. That’s just normal hungry baby speech :(((

Histories of technology especially tend to have a teleological bent. They seek straightforward, linear, progress based narratives that align with hegemony.

This has the effect of people thinking that like... the past is full of backwards people. It also makes history seem really fucking boring.

In fact I like them for the same reason I like resident evil revelation 2’s enemies

I was worried the new resident evil monsters would be disappointing after the highs of resident evil 8 but besides one enemy design that felt kind of last minute and boring I really like the direction they went with this game…really tapping into that pitiful yet horrifying type of monster

You can extrapolate this take to literally all media history. If you haphazardly map the conservatism of the present onto the past, you're making a lazy argument.
