Enjoy it!

Here's a neat project completed recently thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. This boardwalk at Muskallonge Lake State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula allows individuals of all abilities beautiful views of, and access to, Lake Superior.

Imagine you go out to land yourself some dinner and end up catching a behemoth of a catfish. One Michigan angler did just that. Find out about the new state record flathead catfish ๐

A person holding a map turtle caught in a fishing survey.
POV: You're a map turtle caught in Michigan during a Lake St. Clair fish survey.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is working collaboratively with US Fish and Wildlife Services Fisheries and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to survey around the entire lake.
This is a rainbow darter, a species that likes clear, cool waters and is a great indicator of stream health. This one was caught during a Salmon in the Classroom salmon release.
Students found this darter while they were doing a survey to see what lives in the stream/river. #IdentiFriday
Fish scales with multiple colors including yellows, oranges and blues.
What species is shown in this close-up? Happy #IdentiFriday everyone!
We will post the answer later today.
Give turtles a brake! If you see one crossing the road, stop and help (if it's safe to do so).
๐ข Always assist a turtle in the direction it's moving.
โ ๏ธ Never put hands near the bitey or scratchy bits.
๐งค And WASH YOUR HANDS after (or use gloves).
Look, finding out there's a new tick to be on the lookout for is tough, but we'll get through this. ๐ซ

Two collared calves have diedโone from trauma, one confirmed wolf predation via overlapping GPS with a collared wolf.

A deer fawn curled up in the grass.
We love fawns, but we love seeing them in the wild more. Your friendly reminder that just because mom isn't around, doesn't mean she's not watching. Fawns are left alone for long periods of time and a doe will only return when they believe it's safe.
Thank you for coming to our Fawn Talk.

Nope, but good guess! It was a Butler's garter snake. ๐
06.05.2025 13:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The answer was....Butler's garter snake! They are about the width of your pinky. The eastern garter snake is about the width of a thumb.
These snakes eat earthworms, frogs, fish and even leeches. A varied diet!
