More Than Music: South Africa and the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra During the Cold War, the U.S. sent musicians abroad to countries where it was competing for influence.

Beautiful NPR story about recent SA tour by the UMich Symph Orchestra. It's long (45 mins) but captures the experience accurately. I am also quoted extensively at several places in ways that mostly portray me accurately. It was a moving and transformative experience to be part of this tour.

Lize Jansen van Rensburg Coetzee (on the right). April 17, 1968 to February 2, 2002. This was circa January 2002. I have loved deeply twice in my life β€” the first time was Lize, ended by cancer. The second is Gary and that still continues. Life is complicated. People are complex. Love is love.
