Wait -- last thing! emotions might be an extra weird abstract category because they are more easily embodied (in my opinion) than something like a philosophical category/rules/morals...

02.09.2025 17:30 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Though, I'm not sure that the same *couldn't* be said for lots of other abstract concepts. As abstractness pertains to fluency tasks, # of valid words produced are def lower compared to concrete categories, and coding the words produced is extremely difficult given the abstract-ness of it all...

02.09.2025 17:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I brainstormed this question with my lab and we came to the conclusion that emotion words are a particularly difficult/abstract concept because i) affective scientists haven't come to consensus on what is/isn't an emotion word, and ii) the line between what is/isn't an emotion varies across culture

02.09.2025 17:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Does anyone know of any studies/experiments using abstract words as cues in verbal fluency? e.g., name as many 'scientific principles' as you can in 60s? (e.g., emotions, philosophical concepts, rules, conventions, etc)
