Thank you for saying this. Because I accidentally wrote 'voting to oppress themselves' (which does also happen) but I meant to say 'voting to disenfranchise themselves' and what you said here demonstrates materially how that looks really well.

Blaming others is handy because it can absorb a variety of societal abadndoments, from the security you don't have, to the safety you don't feel, to the kinship you've lost, all in a culture hollowed out by avarice and state/corporate violence.

Oh I wanted to add that just like with oppression, disenfranchisement both can be amorphous & it impacts different groups in different ways & you can get hit with many forms simultaneously. Like an apparent one for Black ppl is how policing works.

I rly think part of why they rushed a slapdash dictatorship is bc there was a growing number of white ppl who were no long falling for it. They were engaging online & living among & meeting people & realizing ppl are just ppl who want to send their kids to school & not the sources of their problems.

But the primary weapon used to keep white ppl disenfranchised is just Blaming Others. Blaming Others is how our overlords, of whom there are very few, have kept white voters, who outnumber everyone, essentially voting to oppress themselves.

You might ask why poor white folk that our status quo fails still often vote republican despite also being disenfranchised. Well, it's often because oppression of others is always on the ballot & unfortunately that's a powerful motivator, but it doesn't even move the needle that much. Just... enough

This is also a result of disenfranchisement. People don't become politically apathetic due to the system working for them, they become that way because no matter what it doesn't & has often been antagonistic. It starts with unaddressed poverty but then there's levels & deviations from there.

So few Americans realize that the political apathy conversation is directly related to the voter suppression conversation, which is directly related to the structural anti-Blackness question. So instead we just go, "Why don't THOSE dummies vote?!?".
